Thoughts? 20 Team BIG

Thoughts? 20 Team BIG

Two BIG divisions of ten, which would keep the name Big Ten still relevant as far as divisions. We could go straight up East/West with a nine game round robin division schedule with championship game between East and West. While this scenario would damage BIG tradition, it would preserve the significant and historic rivalries of the old BIG, while creating some interesting new rivalries, especially in the East.

West

Kansas
Missouri/Notre Dame
Nebraska
Iowa
Minnesota
Wisconsin
Illinois
Northwestern
Purdue
Indiana

East

Maryland
Rutgers
Virginia
North Carolina
Georgia Tech
Florida St.
Michigan
Michigan St.
Ohio St.
Penn St.

From a geographic standpoint it would be perfect and travel costs would be minimal, especially for the Western division.

Pretty soon it'll all be just one conference...  I can see us adding two more teams (UNC and Louisville are my picks) but that'll be it.

how would playing each team work?  would there never be cross over games?  cant play everyone in your conference with that many teams?  Like the idea but logistically speaking dont think it will happen.  if you get that big why not split into two conferences

RE: Thoughts? 20 Team BIG

I've seen this theory brought up elsewhere too (20 team conf), and actually think it could work.

However, I would split into 4 divisions of 5. This way, you would play the other 4 in your division, 1 team from the other 3 divisions (rotate annually), and 8th conf game saved for a "rival" game. Still have 8 game conf schedule, and 4 non-conf.

This could also open the door for a semi final game week before conf championship. Ex East #1 v West #1 and North #1 v South #1. Winner of both in conf championship. Just two more games to "halfway" sell out in Indy...

Carolina isn't coming to the B!G.  They're not in financial trouble and it makes no sense.

Best wishes though.
