RE: Shortell to Transfer
I have a lot of respect for Shortell for sticking to his commitment to Minnesota out of high school during a coaching change. He knew the offense wasn't perfect for his style but worked hard and got a few starts out of it. He gave it a shot and must have realized he doesn't fit the type of QB Kill and Limegrover are looking for. I'm sure Gopher fans wish Shortell the best of luck wherever he chooses to go.

Can't say I didn't see this coming. Was really hoping he'd stick it out even though he wasn't a great fit for the offense. I'm now assuming that Foreman will be the #3 QB for the bowl game.

Re: Shortell to Transfer
No surprise. Best of luck to Max wherever he goes. He could be a pretty good QB in the right system.

Re: Shortell to Transfer
Yep, this was expected. Likewise, I certainly wish him the best. His coming into that game at USC was solid. He definately will help out some team. I just hope he doesn't end up somewhere in the B1G and play against us. So, what's next year's depth chart at QB look like? I don't know anything about Foreman. Anybody watch him in practices? I haven't even seen any highschool film on him. On the other hand, at the beginning of this year a lot of people thought Leidner outperformed Nelson.

Re: Shortell to Transfer
I agree we could probably use a JUCO QB just for depth and to balance out the scholarship grid. Foreman was never really brought in to play so much, as I think he may have been brought in as an emergency backup and also to balance out the scholarship grid.

Re: Shortell to Transfer
We don't have a lot of slots. I think Shortells's scholy will go to Derrick Engel.

I tried but Foreman was so far down the depth chart this fall that he hardly got any reps during practice. And until the Gophers got thin at QB this year, I'm pretty sure he wasn't even dressing for games.

Re: Shortell to Transfer
I don't feel confident at our QB position heading into next season with a So. rFr and Fr. At least Foreman will be a rSo. But was really looking for the QB competition between Shortell and Nelson this spring.
Best of luck to Shortell. Hopefully he ends up in the Big Twelve and not Big Ten.

Re: Shortell to Transfer
He could also go the FCS route and not sit out a year.

Class act all the way and had nice parting words. Good luck to him!

Re: Shortell to Transfer
I always liked Shortell. Sad to see him go, but Nelson is the future.
I wonder if this means Streveler will not be redshirting next year?

Good luck to Max, wherever he ends up playing at. Nice to seem him give it his best even though the system was not really to his liking.
