Re: Game Thread: Minnesota at Illinois
This is one of those games for me, where the excitement all week has been pretty subdued, and now, as we are about 15 minutes away from kickoff, the excitement all of a sudden hits me hard...win this, and we likely have a bowl to play in.
Not that it would be a great bowl game, but that one extra game in the season, could be great for the development of all the under class-men we play.

RE: Game Thread: Minnesota at Illinois
Kirkwood picks up four on the first play of the game. Ed Olson not getting the start, he was questionable heading into today.
Donnell Kirkwood busts a nice run for a first.

Illegal formation brings back a nice play by Maye. I hate that call because it is so easy to avoid.
Nelson finds Gray to pick up what was lost on the penalty.

RE: Game Thread: Minnesota at Illinois
Gophers will face third-and-long after an incompletion to Gray.
Nelson throws high to Gray again, Minnesota will punt into the wind.

Big run by Illinois to start the drive, 16-yard run.

Flea-flicker is complete all the way to the Gophers 30. Stoudermire might have broken it up but didn't turn around. That's the second time this season the Gophers have gotten burned by that play.

RE: Game Thread: Minnesota at Illinois
Illinois is on the goal line and looking to score on third down. The Illini take a timeout.

Re: Game Thread: Minnesota at Illinois
Terrible start for the defense, but when Illinois got within the 10, they held strong to hold them to a FG attempt.

RE: Game Thread: Minnesota at Illinois
Gophers stuff them on third down, not even close. Illinois will kick the chip shot FG.
Illinois puts it through, 3-0 Illinois.

Rodrick Williams' long run is followed up by a big run up the middle by Nelson.

Bad read by Nelson who keeps the ball and gets stuffed. Third down for Minnesota.

RE: Game Thread: Minnesota at Illinois
Nelson is sacked for a big loss on the roll out. Gophers will punt it away again. On the replay, it is easy to see that it was a coverage sack. No WRs open downfield.

RE: Game Thread: Minnesota at Illinois
Gophers force the Illini for punt, three-and-out. Big stuff on third-and-short for Minnesota.

RE: Game Thread: Minnesota at Illinois
And Minnesota's offense can't get anything going and will punt into the wind again. This should be the last play of the first quarter.

RE: Game Thread: Minnesota at Illinois
Gophers DL jumps offside and on the next play Illinois picks up a big play after a Michael Carter missed tackle.
