Roman has the money to eat his salary.  They just need to move him to a better situation.  Somewhere in Italy or Spain I would imagine.

I always figured if Torres tanked at Chelsea it would be because of his health -- at Liverpool, if he was healthy, he was scoring.  He is still only 27 years old -- he should be in his prime right now, but he has been in a funk since prior to the World Cup.

Do Chelsea's formations/style of play not suit him?  At Liverpool, he was most effective up front by himself with Gerrard right behind (Rafa favored the 4-2-3-1 formation).  AVB plays 4-3-3 a lot when I've watched, and I've noticed Torres drifting out a lot to the wings.  Mata seems like a good player to play in the hole behind Torres, but what do I know.

As for where he might go if Chelsea sells him, it seems to me like the only Spanish teams that could afford him would be Barca and Real Madrid -- and I can't see a former Athletico player like Torres playing at Real Madrid.  Barca, quite frankly, doesn't need him (especially if he demands a high wage).  What team in England has enough money to buy him?  City?  United?

Torres needs service.  The formation at Chelsea has not helped him at all.  I am still wondering why they went after him when they had Anelka, Drogba, & Sturridge at the time.  He didn't fit the mold.

speaking of past his prime (or not?) anyone care to make an over/under on how many goals Tevez will score if/when he comes back for real?

Abromovich had wanted Torres for years. It probably would have happened immediately after the World Cup had Hicks and Gillett not been hard up to hold onto any assets that would make the team more valuable. When you have a stupid amount of money, you can do stupid things with it. IIRC one of Chelsea's initial offers to Liverpool was 35 million and Sturridge, and when LFC balked at that, they offered Anelka, before Liverpool finally called their bluff and that ridiculous fee (and the subsequent ridiculous Carroll fee) was agreed. Even given Carroll's improvement in form over the past month, I wonder how many Liverpool fans would kill to have a mulligan on the Sturridge + cash deal, considering how hard league goals have been to come by this season.

In the short run of games Torres had under Kenny last season, his form looked to be on an major upswing. He even scored in the last match he played for the team at Wolves. He just looks mentally broken now. Being a folk hero on Merseyside is a bit more forgiving than being a rich underproducing striker in London. But he had to know that when he took the job.

Well, Chelsea squanders a 1-0 lead today, & promptly loses to Napoli 3-1.  Quite simply one of the poorest defensive efforts I have ever seen, & Napoli was not much better.  A very, wide open match.  At least the Blues tallied an away goal; however, I doubt this team can hold Napoli to a clean sheet in the return match.

Napoli is a tough team to play. they really pack it in and break against you better than any team I've ever watched. Their style of play is tough to watch, IMO, but it really seems to work, especially in the unfamiliarity associated with champions league play.

Luiz, Ivanovic, & Meireles really struggled with the Napoli attack.

KU with a 19 point comeback against Mizzou, and Arsenal going from 0-2 down to winning 5-2 against Tottenham. Can't imagine a much better sports weekend than that.

Watching that Carling Cup final after the Border War game yesterday has taken a couple of years off my life, surely. YNWA!

Wow what a winner from RvP. Liverpool was able to dominate for large parts of the game, but the Gunners came away with a huge 3 points. Man I hope we can re-sign Captain Vantastic!

Tremendous finish to the match.  The pressure is on Chelsea to take care of business at WBA.

Seriously, what a huge win for the Gunners when they didn't really have any business leaving Anfield with 3 points. Arsenal gets to stay in the 4th spot, and hopefully West Brom can at least draw at home against Chelsea for some more breathing room later today!

Another listless performance by Chelsea today.  Sturridge blowing two golden opportunities.  How much longer will Roman give AVB?

In two years I have developed an emotional attachment to Aston Villa.....and they are playing like a team that should be relegated.  This ******* sucks.

Has he changed tactics at all the entire season?  Unfortunately, I believe the answer is no.

As an Arsenal fan, I'm of course hoping for the Spurs to struggle again.  It's always nice finishing on top of them on the table plus it would be nice to inch closer to that third spot so we don't have to qualify for the CL group stages again.
