Why make this into a political issue? Bib Costas just tried. What a shame... I'm speechless.

Why make it political? Is this a joke or are you knew in the country? It was likely political within 5 minutes of the story breaking.

I thought the same thing, but considering this is NBC, im not surprised. What we have is a tragedy involving domestic violence, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, concussions and probable mental health issues, and you choose to isolate gun ownership out of this whole mess? I dont own a gun, but I would like to retain the right.

Whitlock did the same thing today, shockingly.

That's was pretty bizarre and really poor timing by Costas. Don't need that on Sunday Night Football.

It's actually all of the above.

Sure it's a gun issue. Too bad she wasn't packin for some protection.  Kind of like the Aurora Colorado shootings. It's a shame somebody wasn't packin that night too.

More guns is definitely the answer. If only we were issued guns out of the womb.

Hi StrawmanInDeutschland! I just think it is sad that people try to force their agendas onto these tragedies. Did you listen to Costas' halftime message? He referenced hypothetical teens getting into an argument outside a convenience store because one of their car stereos was too loud, and then tried to tie that hypothetical into this tragedy, and then deduced that guns were the culprit. This is not a rare thing - people jumping on tragedies to affirm their agenda. It just strikes me as false altruism, and i disagree with it.

I think they actually get pissed when somebody is murdered with a butcher knife.

To those that disagree with the above statement, let's hear your words, not your anonymous ratings.

I do not agree with making this a guns issue. I was just agreeing with the above posters statements on mental health issues etc. and gun violence is the problem as well. The fact that this cannot ever be discussed in a civil matter is part of the problem.

This thread was about the weirdness of Costas' halftime appeal. We can discuss the issue of gun control, but that needs to be visavis the other issues involved in this situation. In my opinion, most of the other issues deserve to be discussed before the gun issue.

From a policy standpoint, what would you have done about it?

I lost a lot of respect for Costas after that ridiculous and frankly, embarrassing commentary at halftime.  My jaw dropped and I was just as speechless.  disbelief

Belcher certainly did not need a gun to kill his girlfriend if that is what he had decided to do. Also anyone who wants to kill themselves can find a way to do it without a gun. This tragedy was not caused by a gun problem.

That being said, those that believe we would all be safer if everyone was packing are a little disconnected from reality.

Anyway, too the politics board with this thread!

I'm not saying everyone. That would be a disaster. But I wonder how many that freak in Aurora would have shot if somebody shot his ass while loading another clip in his AK. OK now that I've had my say it's on to the politics board. Right?

Or I should say how many of those people that were gunned down would have survived?

NBC has become pretty brazen with their willingness to lean to the left.  At least the mainline network used to attempt to keep some semblance of balance in their perspective.  Pretty clearly, the corporate direction is to go pretty hard to the left.
