Sporting News Has IU 10th

Unfortunately, it's tenth in the BIG. Of course when you look at the players lost from last year, along with the largest freshman class in the league, to go along with a senior less team, it makes sense. If the SN preseason finish comes to fruition, CTC is in deep doo doo. There are just too many unknowns going into the season. There will be nights that we are on from outside, and we could beat anyone in the BIG. There will be games that our lack of size inside is exposed, and we will be a team that can't beat anyone. Let's hope for the games when the rim looks like a peach bucket.

Does the SN have us ranked about right?

I'm a little more kind in my prediction. I've said they will finish no better than 8th in the conference.

Well if their prognostication comes through, I think we will be seeing a new coach next year,....

With injuries figured in, and there always are, we could go lower.  I have no confidence in the coach now, so that does color my opinion, but be that as it may, looking at the roster, then looking at the coach, it's a real stretch for me to see a good record.

Agree with you on injuries changing the picture, but injuries could destroy a few BIG teams. Of course if we lost YF for a stretch, it could get ugly.

Yeah, it could be that bad. If so, we better be searching for a new coach.

Re: Sporting News Has IU 10th

I think a prediction of 10th is shortsighted.  IU has much better talent than that, and if the team gels better than last season, the Hoosiers have a chance at a very good season.  Our Big Ten slate is rather easy.

Here ya go.  I think it can turn out like this.  Throw stones and tell me where I am off.

W's (24) - Mississippi Valley, Texas Southern, SMU, Lamar, Eastern Washington, Greensboro, Pittsburgh, Savannah State, Louisville, Grand Canyon, Butler, New Orleans, @Nebraska, OSU, Penn State, Maryland, @Purdue, Rutgers, Michigan, Minnesota, Purdue, @Rutgers, @Northwestern, MSU

L's (7) - Georgetown, @MSU, @Illinois, @OSU, @Wisky, @Maryland, Iowa

Re: Sporting News Has IU 10th

Not throwing stones at all....just "talkin'."   A "W" vs. Louisville?   And at Purdue?  And at Nebraska?  And at Northwestern?   And vs. SMU?  And vs. Michigan?  And vs. Michigan State?   Hard to imagine we get all of those.   I think 20-11 is a reasonable goal, but likely the top side for this team...I'm predicting more like 18-13 again.  We just have no size at all and will rely on youth for so much of our scoring..   That's not a formula which proves reliable very often...

If we finish lower than 7th in the Big Ten and miss the NCAA tournament, there is no reasonable argument for keeping Crean.  I hate it that Indiana might; but he's not proven that he can get and keep Indiana at the top....however I promise you he understands that he can't keep his job if he doesn't win.

Louisville and at Nebraska are swing games.  But, so are Iowa at home and @Maryland and @Illinois.  You have to think we can get close to 50/50 on swing games.

IU will beat Northwestern....easily.  Not sure I understand your thought at all on that one.

SMU is at home.  I don't even consider that a swing game.  That should be a 'W' all the way.

Purdue is a rivalry game, so anything can happen, but it's still one we should win

vs Michigan.  Their front court isn't much, if any, better than ours and it's at home

MSU?  Look past Izzo.  That's not a very good roster and we should win at home.  I did give MSU the road victory.

Re: Sporting News Has IU 10th

I wish I were as confident as you are; but I think we're going to have a heck of a time rebounding and preventing 2nd chance baskets.  I also think we're going to spend a lot of time in foul trouble because we just don't have any size.   Davis is our best post player, and he's (maybe) 6'6".   Priller and April are both "hope" bets, and Perea just hasn't proven anything yet.   I know we have the best point guard in the Big Ten, but his shot selection's been terrible; and he spends so much time looking to make a move that I think it takes away from his best attributes.    Maybe things will change, and I think we'll be athletic as heck.

SMU has 7 seniors and two redshirt juniors.    That's a "win all the way?"    I sure hope so.

W's (24) -  @Nebraska

A win at Nebraska?  eek    Didn't IU lose to Nebraska at home this past season?  Isn't IU playing the Huskers on the road in the sold-out, 14,500 seat Pinnacle Bank Arena (PBA) considered one of the toughest road environments in the B1G?  Isn't Nebraska's record in PBA 15-1?    (The one lost was to conference champion, Michigan, when the Huskers missed a last second shot to win it.)

While Indiana could beat the Huskers this season, it would be considered a major road upset, certainly not a game a fan should automatically put in the IU "W" column.

Indiana 3rd in the B1G Ten. Besides Wisconsin, every game in every venue in the B1G is winnable this year.  Lots of ?'s in the front court throughout the B1G.
