James Blackmon, Jr. Waivering on IU Committment?

James Blackmon, Jr. attended the IU-Michigan game in Ann Arbor and sat near the Michigan bench with two fellow Hoosiers, Hamilton Southeastern's Zak Irvin, who has already signed with Michigan for next season and who's the leading candidate for this year's Mr. Basketball award, and Austin Hatch, a 2014 Michigan commit from Ft. Wayne Canterbury.

Blackmon's presence has tongues wagging among the Michigan faithful that he may be on the verge of decommitting from IU.  Some speculate that this may have led to the exchange of words Crean had with Michigan Assistant Coach Jeff Meyer, who was instrumental in getting Eric Gordon to decommit from Illinois.

I wouldn't make too much of it.  Blackmon's Luers team was eliminated from the state tournament the night before, and he accepted an invite to go to a major basketball event with kids who could get tickets.  Only the home team can provide tickets to recruits, as best I know.

There has been no credible evidence in the media, and no mention from JB on his Twitter page about wavering in his commitment to IU, or even considering Michigan.  He's not a kid who typically tweets a hundred times a day, but he does re-post about every encouraging word from IU fans.

IMO, if there is anything to be concerned about going forward, it's JB's friendship with JaQuan Lyle and Trey Lyles.  That has endured for a while.  If Lyles and Lyle were to commit to the same school, well, then there could be some reasonable cause for speculation.

Regarding Coach Crean, it certainly wouldn't help my mood to see a prize recruit as a guest of an opposing team, but we'll probably never know exactly what set him off.  Some have claimed that Jeff Meyer was yelling at him during the game, that he told him to "F-off" in the handshake line, or that Coach Crean may know more about what transpired during the last days of Sampson than the NCAA and the general public know--but Coach Meyer isn't talking now and Coach Crean has said all he's going to say.  We may find out when they write their memoirs.

In the end, Coach Crean apologized for a "misunderstanding", but at best, he could be simply taking the onus on himself to put this unsavory episode to bed for all concerned.  At the very worst, CTC had a bad minute.  It doesn't erase a season of great success.

I said when Blackmon,jr committed to IU that he would never wear an IU uniform and i stick to it...this makes me feel even stronger about what I said.
