Indiana - Michigan State

Indiana - Michigan State

Not much here we don't already know.  All of the match-ups are key:  Oladipo and Dawson may both be nursing sore wheels; Yogi on Appling will be huge; Zeller-Watford vs. Nix-Payne should be epic; Hulls on Harris may tell the tale, but there is Sheehey in reserve if that one (or possibly any of the others) gets out of hand.  And don't forget about the rest of the benches.

IMO, the way the game is called is going to be a very important factor.  If it's called tightly with a quick whistle, I believe it will favor the Hoosiers.  Michigan's size and strength in the paint may prevail if they let them bang.

Since the game is the marquee game of the evening, the refs may call it close, being in the national spotlight as they will be.

May the Hoosiers be the best team, and may the best team win.

Fast and furious action, 11-10 MSU at the under 16:00. Watford is on Nix, Zeller on Payne. They're giving Zeller the medium-range jumper, and he's hitting. Not so for Watford and Hulls, who are 0-3 from deep.

Magic says the Spartans need to work it inside, Vitale says IU needs to get to the line. So far, the Spartans are getting what they need. Good thing we brought Zeller. We need to put it in the basket.

RE: Indiana - Michigan State

Bigs have been the story, inside and out. Payne with two 3-pointers, Watford and Elston connect from deep as well. MSU has turned it over 3 times to 0 for IU, and that is spelling the difference as both teams are shooting the ball well.

Both teams substituting freely, Izzo probably is remembering how his team was sucking wind down the stretch at our house.

Fouls are not a factor yet, only three total called in the first 8 minutes. Not going to help our cause, but if we play tough D and hit our shots, we should be fine.

23-20 IU at the under 8:00. Sheehey picked up two quick fouls, but other than that, they have let them play. Very few stoppages, this game could be over by 8:45 ET.

Hoosiers are winning the battle of the boards, 10-8 at this stage. Doing work. Both teams are shooting around 50%, our percentage was hurt by a few missed second chances in the paint.

Cody will be at the line shooting our first two throws when play resumes.

IU up 8 at the 2:33 mark, but it hasn't quieted the crowd. Both teams have cooled off from the field, now just a tad over 40%. Fouls piling up on IU, seems like the 50-50 calls are going the way of the Spartans.

That was a sweet municipal-league play Victor pulled on the out-of-bounds move for the dunk. Gotta guard the ball.

The Breslin Center is still rocking. See what MSU comes up with out of this timeout. They need a score, don't want to give us a shot at a double-digit lead.

RE: Indiana - Michigan State

36-30 at the break. Both teams used a lot of players in the first half, MSU went right at Hollowell and Perea when they were in there for easy buckets. Neither team has gotten significant points off of the transition game, although IU has had some opportunities that ended in "blocks", a category that MSU leads 4-1. IU leads in "fouls", 9-6.

Nix has done little to back up his chatter, but Payne has been stellar, leading MSU in points and rebounds. Hasn't missed a shot, 3-3 from the floor, 2-2 from the line. The second foul on him is major.

Oladipo leads us with 9 points, 4 steals, and his 3 rebounds ties him with Zeller and Yogi in that department. Dawson has 4 points and 3 turnovers. Lots of ball left to play.

45-40 at the under 16:00. Payne just picked up his third foul, and was laying on the court as they cut to commercial. Yogi also picked up his third, but Appling hasn't gone at him as yet.

Neither team has been able to put a big run together, but credit both defenses for that fact. Shaping up to be a classic.

Whoa, reversal of fortunes there.  Not the call we wanted on Watford versus Payne, but there was clear contact with Watford's elbow and Payne's head.  Not surprising, but at least the foul on Payne stands.  Two and the ball for MSU.

RE: Indiana - Michigan State

Lost the lead for a brief moment there, but Hulls took the charge from Appling and stopped the bleeding. Have to admit, we got a bit of a break from TV Ted (who almost always makes a signature call against the home team) on the and-1 for Zeller to put us back in the lead.

Once again, MSU foiled an Indiana breakaway, we are getting nothing cheap. 51-49 at the under 12:00. The crowd is borderline unhealthy, but we're unfazed. Great experience for the tournament, win or lose.

IMO, we're looking at two number one seeds in the tournament. Great ball being played, particularly on the defensive end.

IU by 1 at the under 8:00. Starters on the floor at the end of the last segment, probably will close it out, except platooning Sheehey for Jordy on the defensive end.

Fourth foul on Watford was as big as it was bogus. Looked like Nix may have pulled a groin on the last drive to the hoop by Zeller.

Tip of the hat to freshman Valentine. Playing very well and making a solid contribution.

This one could come down to the last shot. Who's gonna take it? Watford for the win?

We're not getting the calls, we're not getting shots to drop, playing a bit out of control. Nix got away with one on the tapper, looking to make a statement in crunch time. Probably going to have to front him, or help out Watford, or he'll get to the tin.

Jordy time? Seniors need to step up.

Both teams in the 1-and-1. Do we foul? I say yes. '

The blood pressure couldn't take overtime.

Victor seals it, after the gaffe by Sheehey. Great job by the Hoosiers. Great job by Coach Crean.

This isn't the end of anything. We'll see MSU again in Chicago. Great game.

Another one for the ages, for the program, for the Glory of Old IU!!!!

I am not sure Sheehey fouled, he was straight up and Harris leaned into him, BAD CALL IMHO

Worst officiated game of basketball I've seen in a long, long time. Not a surprise that Ted Valentine was a part of it.

Congrats to you guys on the win! A very tough, tough game. Tom Crean has this team built for a long stretch run in March. You guys deserved to win this game, as you wanted it more than we did. We did not protect the ball well enough to win.

See you again in the B1G tourney & good luck the rest of the regular season. What a motor Oladipo has........ biggrin It may be hard to keep him out of the NBA.
SPARTANS WILL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that is correct...."VERY"....bad call...that was a no call but Harris bailed him out with the miss....and I agree with the flagrant on Watford...even tho it was not intentional.

I think they need a rule change....a non foul when player lunges into the defensive player...what a stupid foul to call.
