Indiana - Nebraska

If this game were played on paper, we'd be in great shape for the win--but it wouldn't draw much of an audience.  Can't take anything for granted, need to contain their guards Gallegos and Talley.  They also have size and agility in Ubel, their third leading scorer, and prodigious bulk in Almeida, their 6'11", 310# Brazilian center.

Let's show we deserve that #1 rating.  We still owe these guys a spanking from the 1-point loss we suffered in their house last season.  Go Hoosiers!

Painfully slow start for the Hoosiers, now trailing 12-9 at the under 12:00. We have been doing a good job of working the ball inside, but haven't been able to finish shots, now 2-10 from the floor while Nebraska is a robust 5-7. They appear determined to not give up anything cheap inside, however, and the fouls are piling up--3 on Almeida, and 2 each on Ubel and Shields.

Nice move by Coach to press them and get a couple of easy turnovers, but we need to start putting the ball in the hoop at a higher rate. Lots of guys seeing the floor early, we've gone 10 deep already. We should be fine in the long run, but this start is frustrating.

Had a nice little run around the 8 minute mark with 3-pointers from Yogi and Victor and a driving layup from Hulls to give us a 7 point lead, but we came up empty on a few subsequent possessions and Nebraska was able to cut it to 3 at the under 4:00. We've built it back to 9 at the half, primarily due to free throws by Watford.

Zeller sat most of the last 10 minutes after picking up his second foul, but Ubel and Almeida both have three and they were not able to take advantage. Our pressing and half-court defense have been very good, forcing 10 turnovers, but we're still not getting shots to drop at the pace we need.

The slow pace has kept the big crowd relatively quiet. You have to appreciate defense to enjoy this performance, 27-18 at the break. A couple of major edges we should be able to exploit in the second half are Nebraska's foul trouble and their problems solving our press. Oh, yeah, and Cody Zeller might just get it going.

46-30 at the under 12:00, with Sheehey shooting a pair when play resumes. Hit them with a quick 7-point flurry to start the half on a tip-in by Vic, a three by Jordy, and a monster slam by C-Wat. Nebraska showed some life after a quick timeout, and Zeller picked up his third foul and will likely be an assistant coach for a while unless things get out of hand.

Ubel has picked up his fourth foul, as has Shields. Looks like there will be minutes for the bench mob tonight, unless we get too cute with the ball.

Final 76-47.  Beat them in every statistical category.  Link to the ESPN stats here:

Now, we can relax and enjoy Illinois-Purdue.  One of them is going to lose, fo sho.  Great opportunity for A.J. Hammons to shine.
