No minutes for Jurkin. Why?

No minutes for Jurkin. Why?

Can't understand why he he gets no minutes, especially in 37-point wins.  I'll offer  the possibility that there are still eligibility issues.   But I have absolutely no knowledge of this possibility.

Just a hunch, he might be on his way out, Like Bawa and the Vanilla Gorilla. He will probably ride off into the sunset. we don't need him anyway, I would rather have Alexender.

RE: No minutes for Jurkin. Why?

Jurkin is a real puzzle. Considering that he was vetted by the NCAA in November, there should be no eligibility issues, unless somebody knows something that the general populace (and the NCAA) doesn't.

Could be that he's not getting it done at practice. We wouldn't know. All we know is that Perea, Elston, and even Jeff Howard are seeing the floor while he rides the pines. The 9 games he sat in the OOC season may have deprived him of the experience Coach felt he needed to acclimate to the D-1 game, and he wants him to start fresh next year, after a season of practice and conditioning--but there is no talk of a red shirt--and the depth chart only gets deeper next year.

Very puzzling, indeed.

Seeing some talk today about Jurkin dealing with injuries, lower leg or foot. Possibly recurring shin splint issues, which cost him time in high school.

What I think that is rather odd, Not a word from coach, just the same way it was with others, Not blaming or finding fault with Crean, But it happens with all major programs in the country, Just cannon fodder for trying to build a winning program, Cal, Rick P. and others do the same thing, No harm No foul. Maybe he's not very good? Just a wild guess.

Re: No minutes for Jurkin. Why?

Is it possible that they are setting him up to be red-shirted?  I'm not sure what the exact rule is for red-shirting in basketball i, but I thought it was something along the lines of not appearing in more than 25% of your team's games, and/or less than a certain number of minutes.  With Watford and Elston as Seniors, and the possibility of Zeller going pro, perhaps they are trying to give him a year to develop his game, and not waste a year of eligibility for him in a situation where he can't contribute significantly to this year's team.

RE: No minutes for Jurkin. Why?

Peter would not be able to take a voluntary redshirt at this point. Playing in a single game eliminates the voluntary redshirt.

For a medical redshirt, there would have to be a documented incapacitating injury or illness in the first half of the season, and the player would have to have appeared in no more than two games or 20% of the scheduled games, whichever is higher. Peter has played in three games: 4 minutes vs. Florida Atlantic, 2 minutes vs. Jacksonville, and 1 minute vs. Penn State. I suppose he could plead the 20% rule, but what is the debilitating injury?

Moreover, considering the turn our recruiting fortunes have taken of late, our problem going forward will be more a matter of creating room for the incoming players than of preserving the maximum eligibility of current ones.
