Just published, unbelievable story about Manti Te'o and the dead girlfriend story.  Reserving judgement for the moment until more facts emerge, and not on the scale of Lance Armstrong, but Wow.  Just Wow:

You can expect to hear a lot more about this in the upcoming days. Basically, the story alleges that Te'o's relationship with the girlfriend who died around the time his grandmother passed, never happened, and the "girlfriend" was a creation of a friend of his--a cousin of former Seattle linebacker Manu Tuiasosopo.

Considering that the story tugged at America's heartstrings, and Te'o was a candidate for the Heisman as well as numerous other awards--many of which he won--the question is, was this simply a merry prank that got bigger than the pranksters, was it a deliberate hoax to gain support for the Heisman trophy, or what the certified heck was it?

And what did Notre Dame know, and when did they know it? The university just announced that Te'o notified them on Dec. 26 that he was the victim of a hoax. Curiouser and Curiouser. Tough month for the Domers, to be sure.

Notre Dame will be holding a press conference at 8:00 pm EST, per ESPN News. Not sure if they'll carry it live, but it would be on Comcast 231 in the Calumet Region if they do.
