Indiana-Sam Houston State

Indiana-Sam Houston State

Other than 6'11" sophomore Michael Holyfield, Sam Houston State does not possess a great deal of size, so expect them to provide a good test for our perimeter defense.  They have been starting three guards in their first two games, of which two are under 6'0"  but are quick and like to launch the three.

SHS played Arkansas tough in their season opener, losing by only 5 points to a Razorback team that was without BJ Young, but otherwise intact.  Could be a better game than we anticipate, although our shortage of frontcourt height should not be a factor in this one.

Watford not starting? Probably means he'll be backing up Cody at the 5.

The 3's are dropping, but they've all been for the Hoosiers so far. Up 10 at the first break. Nice.

Looks like coming off the bench built a little fire under C-Wat. 14 points, including 6-6 from the line, 3 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Not a bad half.

Cody still under the weather, maybe we can rest him a bit more in the second half. SHS is not rising to the challenge so far.

And cue the UK fans not being "impressed." One guy went as far as saying Sam Houston State is a Division 2 team. Show their basketball IQ.

A total team effort. Everyone who played contributed. The team work and unselfishness of this group is impressive. The speed and quickness is impressive. Once the two suspended frosh return and get added to the frontcourt depth, this becomes a frighteningly good team.

Very satisfying victory, particularly because of the improved defense.  Hulls had a great night on both ends of the floor, seemed much more active and aggressive on defense than ever before, passed out some sweet dimes from the point, and hit big shots.

We have made noticeable progress with each of these first four games, after falling behind Indiana Wesleyan and letting Bryant play with us for a half, we dominated this one start to finish.

It's time to ramp up the competition for a better yardstick of how good we really are.  The Legends Classic at the Barclay Center in New York is right on time, we need the challenge.  It's not yet a road game in the B1G, but it's the next step.
