Thanks.   I was using the Cardinal's school site.  I was thinking just maybe they would be as up to date as IU's.

I was hoping he would be the signing day surprise in a good way!

In some ways the advent of these forums has made it harder, for me.  Not living in Indiana, I really didn't get to follow the program as much.  I watched what games I could, and had my relatives send me articles from the paper, but that was about it.

Now, we get the highs and lows 12 months a year.  Unfortunately, there seem to be a lot more lows than highs!

Been on the roller coaster, ever since.   Unlike with the basketball program. I have seen many more downs than up And never the pinnacles that the basketball program has achieved, since my graduation from IU.. Where I was  and still am patient in the rebuild of our basketball program, because of all the successes I have witnessed, I can't say the same for our football program.

My patience (as well as my time on Earth) is coming to an end.  I don't have the time, nor the patience left that some of our younger members do.  Some mistake my impatience with our football program's progress,  with a disloyalty to our program, when in fact it is just the opposite.

It's nice to see some bulk. A couple 300 lb'ers and a couple more who will hit 300 when they hit the gym regularly!!!

I had already left IU in 1968 and had returned from Viet Nam by that time, so I might be one of the older guys on this football forum.  Not has obsessed with the fb program as basketball, but still a fan.  I really feel a difference in Coach WIson's approach relative to almost every other coach we have had since Pont's crew went to the Rose Bow.

Love his intensity and determination.  Hope he is a tenacious recruiter and demanding coach.

I just had my 40th Bday last on Saturday but been an IU Football junkie since about the age of 5 having been born and raised in BTown.  I've endured about 35 years of punishment that I wouldn't wish on anyone.
On a bright note, ESPN ranks Illinois class dead last instead of us.  So how about a big chant of "We are #11, we are #11!" biggrin

Naptown:  Where did you find the ESPN rankings?  I just found a list that was alphabetical.  Scout has 9th, and Rivals has us 11th only ahead of MN excited

Watching ESPNU, they keep scrolling through each BCS conference in order of rank.

That team was the first IU team I got to see play in person. I was 12, and my Dad (who absolutely bleeds Cream & Crimson) scored us a couple of tix to see them play at Illinois. We won the game, of course, and I've been totally hooked ever since. We started getting season tix Corso's first year, and still have them today.

As a side note, my Dad (who is now 82) and I both like CKW and the direction he has the team heading. And believe me when I tell you that Dad has very little patience about anything anymore.  biggrin

Re: IU's 2012 signing day central

Was at IU the season we Beat BOTH Michigan and Ohio State @ Columbus-under Bill Mallory in 1987. The 14-10 Win over Michigan at Memorial Stadium was also Bo Schembechler's final visit to IU as Wolverine's Coach which made it especially memorable. We sat in the Freezing rain in the temporary stands in the NORTH END ZONE, a whole bunch of us Hawaii IU students and even some of their parents who flew in for Homecoming Week Festivities and the Game etc.

My IU time featured initially WR Duane Gunn, QB Dave Kramme, QB Dave Schell, WR Ernie Jones, and later RB Anthony Thompson-and the program WON pretty consistently-comparable to the success Northwestern is having right now i'd say. They went to Bowls, were very Competitive and won a Few under Bill Mallory-who won consecutive Big Ten Coach of the year awards in 1986 and 1987.

NO doubt last season was Disappointing, but looking at both Lines, our QB position and Defensive unit overall clearly the Team was a long way from Winning games in the tough physical Big Ten-esp. with that schedule @ Wiscy (2 yrs. in a row) @ MSU and @ OSU. *We have MORE Defensive HELP now esp. on the LINE and in the D backfield, our QB position was instantly UPGRADED and moreso-with defections and transfers etc. we have guys who WANT to be Competing for INDIANA under Wilson and Co., now-from all appearances. They are ALL IN.

Personally I LIKE the Staff additions a LOT, and the 2012 Class Does address a lot of our Immediate needs at least on paper. We Still have TWO rides left and this signing period extends for a month-would be great to add another athletic rangy LB, and maybe another Strong physical DT Space-eater type Tough DL'man. But good looking Class-once we start WINNING consistently on the Field our Class rankings should go Higher as well, but still a Good 2012 Class to keep Building and moving the Program Forward. GO IU!

Craig we were at IU at the same time.  I was there '85-'89 as an undergrad and then continued on with my studies from 1989-1992.  Good years for basketball and football.

RE: IU's 2012 signing day central

Good link and perspective Vinnie-Thanks for bringing it here. I Like the Fact KW and his Staff are Recruiting States like Texas, Louisiana/Mississippi, Georgia and Florida more now too to bring some of that Athletic talent and speed up North to the B1G. WINNING GAMES on the Field though is what will Sustain and BOOST our Recruiting Instate and Nationwide.

In retrospect, with the Talent level we HAD esp. on Both Lines, at QB and on Defense in general-First Year Coach and Staff/Adjustments and Growing Pains etc. no secret why we struggled in Conference, though we were CLOSE on some of the Non conference Games. We just were a Young Team that Didnt know how to WIN and close out Games under a New Coach and staff adjusting on the Fly with players they didnt know very well. noidea

Seems like there were some ''chemistry'' issues too-with the drama surrounding some of the Players-with the WR and RB positions in particular (Belcher and Willis' situation) and some who left on their own, the Kiel sagas etc. Just GLAD now that the Turnover HAPPENED, and now the Players who are HERE are ALL IN.
The BUILDING continues, but going in the Right direction. GO IU!!

Thanks for the link for the map. Very interesting. I noticed that 2 of the 3 that were recruited outside of midwest were Kates and Kyles. Oooops. Lynch did do a decent job in the midwest, but it is hard to compete long term without getting a few from south and west.

Bingo. This is why I have hope for Kevin Wilson. He is recruiting the parts of the country with the best football players.
