Signing Day

Signing Day

Now less than 24 hours away, we will all breathe easier when the recruits are signed, sealed, and delivered.

Kenney and Latham are rumored to be signing at 7:30 am.  They will be two huge bricks in the wall.

The Maurice Swain decision looks like a three-way race between IU, Washington, and San Diego State.  His Twitter account has been dominated by Indiana fans' overtures today, so that's possibly a good sign--especially if those are the only ones he's re-tweeting.  Washington and SDS had been more active previously.

Laray Smith also had us at the top of his list after his OV, and hopefully we're still there.

Let the Movement begin.

Re: Signing Day

Isaac Griffith says he will sign at 3:30 pm.

Early enrollee T.J. Simmons is already signed, as are JUCO's Jordan Heiderman and Steven Funderburk.  A 21-man class would be just about perfect.

Re: Signing Day

Great start to the morning.  15 new NLI's are in so far, per Hoosier Football Twitter:

Antonio Allen
Isaac Griffith
Anthony Young
Evan Jansen
Miles Graham
Patrick Dougherty
Clyde Newton
Chase Dutra
David Kenney
Marcus Oliver
Kris Smith
Danny Friend
Noel Padmore
Darius Latham
Christopher Cormier

Cormier is a new name to the list.  Rashard Fant should be following later.  Nothing from Nigel Tribune yet.

Looks like Nigel Tribune has flipped back to ISU, which was his original school. We can afford that loss, with the plethora of talent coming in on the defensive side of the ball.

No matter how you slice it, it's a great day for IU football!  Arguably the best recruiting class ever.

Congratulations and thanks to Coach Wilson for his tireless recruiting and successful shepherding of these great recruits through the process!

Congratulations and thanks to this stellar class for choosing IU, fending off the hyenas, and committing to bring IU football to the top!

Check out Coach Wilson's presser at 2:00 pm EST:

Do you know if Chestnut is a possibility at corner? You're right, great class! Any info on Cormier?

Chestnut is some sweet icing on the cake.  I'm pretty sure we're set at the corner, and that possibly played into Nigel Tribune's decision to flip back to ISU.  Chestnut is a consensus 3-star, has good but not blazing speed (ESPN shows 4.52 40), and had an impressive offer sheet--including Florida St., Kansas St., Kentucky, and Texas Tech.

Regarding Cormier, here is what IUHoosiers.com has to say.  If there are no academic issues, he could be a steal:

What a great day overall! Getting Laray Smith and Swain last minute, fantastic. Anyone have thoughts on Smith seeing time at running back next year?  I think a return tandom of Shane Wynn and Laray Smith on kickoffs would present quite a few challenges for the opposition next year...

It's very early in the process, but Coach Wilson commented in his presser this afternoon that we recruited just one running back, and he didn't name him.  He did mention that Clyde Newton will be a linebacker, so it's not Clyde--which leaves Myles Graham, Daryl Chestnut, and Laray Smith.

My guess is that Daryl Chestnut is that running back.  Laray Smith seems to have the most versatility, and with his speed and size (6'1", 185#), might be a good or even better fit at wide receiver.  I don't know what other position Myles Graham could play--but considering he missed his last high school season with an injury, he might be a good candidate to redshirt and fill the big back spot that will be vacated by Stephen Houston in 2014.  Again, just guessing.

Houston, Roberts, Coleman, and Roundtree should all be back.  Coach also mentioned that 19 starters from last year will be returning.  I'll bet a few of them are hitting the weight room tonight.

I wrote a post, but moved it to a new thread started specifically for Stacy Thomas.  Very interesting prospect.

RE: Signing Day

i would think if wilson planned on playing graham at RB after a redshirt year that he would still consider him as a RB in the class.

It sounds like only 1 player is planned at RB regardless of what year they see the field at that position.
