New Commit...Kris Smith

New Commit...Kris Smith

Kris Smith, and OLB from Georgia chose the Hoosiers last night. He held offers from IU, Cinn, Purdue, Syracuse, UCF and others. ESPN ranks him as a four star player while Rivals has him at three stars.

He's a big, rangy kid at 6-4 205lbs, I'd expect him to put on fifteen or twenty lbs in IU's weight room. This is a really nice pickup and our defense needs him. Four star rating from ESPN is good to see, must have a big upside.

We're after his teammate too, Noel Padmore who's a DB and has IU right at the top. He has a ton of BCS offers too, be nice to get him in the fold. Our defense finally looks to be attracting the talent to be good.

Nice pickup.  I think we lost our shot at him after Hope left.

I would say that with Fant, Smith, and perhaps Padmore in the fold, having Jon Fabris on the coaching staff is paying off. Remember, he was on UGA's staff for 9 years. So I'm sure he knows the state quite well.

I agree, Fabris has brought a lot to the table for IU. I would personally like to see Fabris as IU's Dcord., and I'm not the only IU fan who feels this way!!!

Someone mentioned on the other board that Doug Mallory was being thrown around for Florida State's dcord. opening and that simply cracks me up. Actually I'd LOVE to see Doug go down there and be replaced by Fabris!

RE: New Commit...Kris Smith

This is cause to celebrate, again. ESPN shows his strengths to be outside run support and tackling, which we certainly can use at that position. That 3.9 GPA stands out as well. Rivals now has this as the 45th best class in the nation.

Welcome to IU, Kris Smith!

Edit:  Some conflicting info about his height--Rivals does show him at 6'4", but ESPN and Scout list him at 6'1".  He doesn't appear to be 6'4" on the video, but he does bring a load:

Awesome pick up! The more help with our "D" the better. I'd still like to add to our line but this is a far better class than I had anticipated!
