Mercedes Russell

Mercedes Russell

Wow!  Anyone's radar on this kid?  She is finishing out her sophomore year, and she is 6 foot 5 inches, with growth plates still open.  This kid looks like the next Brittney Griner, just better, as she is more well rounded.
I sure hope Coach Walz and Co. are looking at this kid from Oregon.

While it may be true as equated to the men's game and I hate being sexist, but for some reason it doesn't sound right to call a girl or woman this as a description.

Just my opinion though, however I would love to get an athletic dominating center for our team!

jennyo, if normality has its way, she will not grow.   You know women reach their peak heights earlier than men and women seldom grow much taller in high school while early high school is often men's best growth years.  If doctors recognize these "growth plates" than yes, there might be something, but it will be unusual.

Re: Mercedes Russell

Even still, 6 foot 5 inches is nothing to sneeze at.Either way, she looks like she is a great baller, well rounded and versatile on the court . She would be a great get, and who knows, maybe Coach has a leg up recruiting an Oregonian each of the last 2 years.

Excellent, excellent news! Now, can coaches meet with her and talk with her? Or is this a quiet/ dead period?

If she indeed is coming on the dates mentioned it is a "Quiet Period" and the below rules must be followed:

Quiet period is a time when the college may not have any in-person talk with the prospective student-athlete or the parents off the college’s campus. The coach may not watch the prospect play or practice. The prospective student-athlete can visit college campuses during this time and a coach may write or telephone

Sooo, it wouldn't make much sense for her to come June 20/21 because she cannot interact with any coach while here with the exception of telephone.  I guess a "non coach" could show her around campus and tour the arena while Coach Walz is on the phone talking to her as she's doing the tour noidea

From the way I'm understanding the sentence put in bold. There can be no contact with the recruit off campus but if they are on campus for a visit then it should be ok....
