I think the best thing to do is vote for the best canidate for the job regardless of party. I'm massively opposed to Romney. I like some things Obama has done, and hate some things as well.

I think a vote for a canidate outside of the two major parties is a good message, even if they don't win. George Washington said that political parties would be the downfall of our nation. He is becoming dangerously close to being right.

Re: OT-POTUS Election continued . . .

If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself. A dependence on the people is, no doubt, the primary control on the government; but experience has taught mankind the necessity of auxiliary precautions.

James Madison, often referred to as the Father of the Constitution, is also quoted as saying:

“The essence of Government is power; and power, lodged as it must be in human hands, will ever be liable to abuse.”

"I feel abused". Willthiswork

Never???? Really ???  47% of the US including many Republicans??  WOW
There are also 4,000 millionaires included in that 47%

http://money.cnn.com/2012/09/1...s-millionaires/
Romney is (totally unaware to himself) the Master of irony. He is talking about 47% who apparently are freeloaders, because they pay no income tax.Yet the reality is all of those people pay some form of tax (payroll.sales etc...),and many of them pay a higher effective tax rate than Romney himself. And btw,Romney himself pays NO INCOME tax,he pays a capital gains tax...

Another irony is that this focusses unwanted attention on Romney's refusal to release his own tax records. This 47% will undoubtedly come up during the debates, and I'd say the chances are extremely high that someone will use the oppty to ask Mittens about his tax returns.

This could be extremely cringe inducing, esp if it comes from someone on the panel or in the audience, rather than from BO himself. There is no way that Mitt is going to be able to put a positive spin on the situation in that context. It's a minefield that Mitt will be forced to navigate, since HE is the one who essentially introduced a renewed emphasis on taxes into the political conversation...

How is Mitt going to deal with the fact that statistically the top 10 States (in terms of citizens receiving govt assistance) are basically RED (GOP) states?Clearly the avg citizens in states like Mississippi or Alabama are more inclined to vote for the GOP.

So how does he answer the questions, without alienating citizens there.Or, far worse for Mitt, how does he frame his answer to avoid antagonizing significant voting blocks in a must win state like Florida?"I didn't mean retirees on SSN,I was talking about welfare mothers lounging around having babies?"-Not just a minefield for Mitt to navigate, but twists and turns thruout the whole debate process...

I truly wonder what Obama has said in private gatherings, where no scum has taken a video without permision. What has he said to Ayers, to his militant minister, etc? If these were published there would be, or would there be, the same endless chewing of the person?

I read a good portion of this thread and have read where many people have said that BO doesn't have a clue on how to improve the economy. No experience, etc., etc. Here's the thing. You get him off camera, off the record, behind closed doors, and he'd tell you he's extremely pleased with what he's done during the past 3+ years. He's done exactly what he intended to do all along. And here's the real kicker... he's extremely pleased with the results!!!

When he ran on "Change," his change was to fundamently change how this country works. He, like all of the Marxist/Leftist, won't/can't tell you what they really believe or they'd never get elected. He's an anti-capitalist. That's not opinion... THAT'S FACT!! He truly believes this country is unvirtuous and was built on the backs of the poor. Hell, he's been apologizing around the world for the last 5+ years for America's behavior. He wants to downsize America and punish us for what he sees as 200+ years of ills. And so far... he's done a damn good job. He's done exactly as he's planned. And God help us if he get's in again.

I swear to GOD, I do not know how a thinking person can support this guy. That is... unless you're one of those who wants the BO to take care of you. I'm not a huge Romney supporter, but in comparison to what we have, he looks like a savior. Then again, Elmer Fudd would be a better choice than what we currently have.

Right now Obama is estimated to have 300 firm electoral votes.  It only takes 270 to win election.

http://elections.huffingtonpos...a-electoral-map

Now it's up to 307.

Game over..Romney will be slaughtered in the debates...too much baggage to explain and not enough mental agility to survive without putting his foot in his mouth....Obama will come out of the debates with a commanding lead....no contest...Obama will win again...

The only thing the Republicans can do now is try to use illegal Jim Crow type Voting laws to suppress the democratic votes. Romney doesn't care about his "47%," and that is why he wants to suppress their vote. In Romney's World his cars get the elevator and the working middle class get the shaft...and they shouldn't have the right to vote....

How could any working middle class family vote for Romney...he doesn't give a damn about the working middle class....he will raise your taxes and take away key programs that help the working middle class move up the ladder....he will take the ladder away as well...

This election is about the economy. This will be a repeat of the 2010 election and Obama will be defeated. Obama losses in Kentucky and Indiana are a foregone conclusion. Gas is $3.85 per gallon and unemployment is 8.3%. Like Carville said:  "It's the economy stupid."

The democrats had all three when Obama started. How did that work out? Obama is an anticolonialist and wants the US to be like everyone else in the world. If that is what you want, go for it.

OSA it is if you think US is a colonialist power. Obama's idea is to make the US like everyone else in world. I think we are unique and special. Don't oyu?

cardfan - let me know how the republicans are "supressing the vote"?  I am guessing you mean asking for ID.  Did you think the democrats suppressed the turnout at their convention?  They asked for ID to get into the convention.  I can't believe the democrats would do that horrible thing to people!!!

The election is basically over.  Obama will end up with 300+ electoral votes and Romney with about 200+.  All of these Obama is Marxist/Leftist comments are seriously deranged.  I would like to see any proof of those ridiculous statements.  Some of these people are so far to the right that any one in the center or slightly left of center is viewed as a Communist.  The Republican party is fading away and if it doesn't change and throw the Tea Party fools out, it will find itself irrelevant in about 8-10 years.

For example, what do you think happens with same-sex marriage in the next generation.  The majority of those opposed are seniors, while those under 50 support it or just don't care.  Twenty years from now, young people will be asking what was all the fuss about same-sex marriage, just like those aged people today are asking what was all the fuss about civil rights.

If this is truly Obama's idea, then why the hell do we have our armed forces scattered all over the middle east? Why is our state department asking for more money to be dumped into places like Egypt? Frankly, I wish we were less colonialist than we are, but I see no evidence to support the notion that Obama feels the same way.

What makes us unique and special, in my opinion, should have a lot more to do with opportunity within our own borders, not how we "colonize" other countries. If the last 4, hell 12, years have taught us anything, it should be that we've got enough to worry about right here at home. When other countries want to imitate us, we're unique and special. When they fear and hate us, we're just bullies.
