Wow! Pitino is making me fired up!

High praise for Wayne, Jones, Mango, Terry, Anton, and Akoy...

I can't wait to see what Wayne and Terry have done in the off season.

A few other things of note:
1. Jaylen Johnson has an academic issue that has been sorted out, but UofL is waiting on the high school for the transcripts and paper work
2. Anas will probably red shirt. He is too light to play C right now at 186.
3. Says Aaron reminds him of Cisco. Same weight, same shooting technique.
4. Onuaku has the most room to grow right now.
5. Biggest improvements are from Mangok and Akoy
6. Quentin will play as a freshman, but he will suffer on defense.

"you won't recognize him" is what Pitino said about Akoy.  Huge leap and has really matured.  Last year couldn't get through practice and immature.

Wayne "punishing people with his new body on drives."  Over the fear of his shoulder popping out.  Not just a spot up player now.  LOVE this.

Terry is going to get to the foul line a lot more.

Q is emotionally ready right now, but as his coaches at Ballard said, he'll struggle on defense.

Good.  The Rozier I watched last season was not the aggressive Rozier I watched in high school, but like you earlier suggested he held back a bit to allow Smith to have his game.  To suggest we won't miss Smith would be foolish, but I think we all know Rozier is a tremendous talent who'll be cut loose this year to play his game.

This alone should be enough to get us all excited.  With Mango's athleticism, if his game is coming we're going to be a national contender.  We've got all the other ingredients.   We'll need some depth from freshmen, but everyone, including the best depend on a freshman or two each year.

Agreed.  Also key for Agau to be capable as a backup big so the young guys can come along slowly.  Anas is looking very likely to redshirt...just too much weight needed on him and Pitino says he wants 4 years of him physically being ready.  I'm not sure he stays 5 years with his size and skill, but I obviously will defer to a HOFer.

Rick looks comfortable and inspired. He's had a great run of personalities and now it seems that won't stop. Right now it looks like he is loving some Mangok.....which has to be a good thing. He's seriously hoping Matz or Chinanu can develop into a good backup.

Well, he said that they were wanting to commit in April.  He also said that they had visited since then.  With that in mind, that pretty much narrows the suspects down to Deng Adel and Antonio Blakeney.  Spaulding and Crawford didn't have offers in April, so it couldn't be them.

It also sounds like a little early summer media-based motivation for both Q and Anas, rarely is any frosh ready for the defense anyway.

My guess would be Deng Adel because Blakeney visited in January.

Rick also said he didn't expect any commitments from international players, but I'm assuming he wasn't thinking about Adel when he said that.

-Mango is bigger and stronger and should be able to give us a nice upgrade at the 5 over last year's SVT/Mango tandem

-Trez has an improved jumper and handles and will add a face-up at the elbow dimension to his game...I suppose similar to what we saw from Randle at UK last year but Trez can pass

-Wayne is now physically driving to the basket to compliment his nice outside shot

-Terry is going to get the the line more often and will do a lot more with Russ gone

-Jones is in better shape and is a very tough vet guard

-Gill and Agau are making big strides as Sophomores and will provide depth

-Snider, Onuaku, and Aaron are newcomers capable of helping so long as they get their bodies physically ready and improve defensively.

-Matz is still a wildcard as far as what he may be able to do, as is Johnson.  Anas will be great down the road.

I love the use of all 13 scholarships.  So much talent, size, character...this might be the best roster top to bottom Pitino has assembled...it just so happens that there are a lot of young guys with their best ball ahead of them...thus this might not be the best team just yet.

Before trez decided to return, I had thought agau would start at PF. Glad to see he is making strides to make that prediction palatable. I mean he won't start with trez and Mangok there, but the idea that he "could have."

Re: Wow! Pitino is making me fired up!

Johnson is going to be getting here later so he's starting out behind.  I don't think he has the same type of strength gains needed that Anas and Aaron have, but I suspect he's not quite physically ready from the latest videos I've seen.  I think Johnson has more upside than Agau due to his perimeter skills and athleticism, but I do think an improved Agau can be a better "role" player for now behind Trez at the 4 and perhaps some at the 5 as well.  I expect him to be a lot stronger and better conditioned, so he should be a solid defender and rebounder.  He has some nice offenive potential as well, although I doubt he gets a ton of touches as of yet.  He at least provides some threat to score unlike SVT.

Ideally, Onuaku gets into shape and can be a good backup for Mango with Agau backing both the 4/5 spots as well.  That could be a good 4 man rotation inside, with Trez rarely leaving the floor in big games.  Stockman and Johnson could potentially offer some nice insurance/depth and if they really progress then certainly they could nudge their way into the rotation.  The wings/guards are set with Aaron, Gill, and Snider as back ups.

We really seem to have all the pieces in place.  Some of those pieces still need considerable development, especially physically in lots of cases, but the raw material is there and guys like Trez and Terry can carry the young guys until they're ready.
