Zooker

Zooker

Don't ever question Zook's recruiting prowess ! The lack of fan support certainly is awful. Recruits are defined coming out of school, not entering. Zook won with many 2 and 3 stars which is a testament to coaching. I do agree there was some questionable decision making. But hey,was voted Nat'l coach of the year, rose bowl, back to back bowl wins. He's Vince Lombardi compared to what you have now !

He was 18-38 in conference play overall and won I conf game his first two years.. Let it go - his record was not any better.

It will be if we lose to Purdue.

I think we look more "lost" now.

Grown Ups 2 was terrible which means the first one must have been good.  Or something.

RE: Zooker

Zook wasn't voted coach of the year by anyone that matters. An insurance company named him coach of the year.

Mark Mangino was the AP 2007 coach of the year, not Zook.

RE: Zooker

I don't really see his anyone can say zook wasn't a good evaluator or that he was winning with highly rated recruits. Not necessarily true. Most of his "big recruits" never panned out. By and large, zook won with average guys that developed. Yet to be determined if Beckman can do the same

RE: Zooker

Zook works at a bank. Why? Because he is a terrible game day coach.

Yes he is.  But he's still a better coach than what we have right now.

Zook started with a lot less then Beckman.

Zook inherited Mendenhall, Norwell, O'Donnell, McDonald, Leman, Miller, Mitchell, Fulton, etc. for multiple seasons.  Who are the multiple-season equivalents Beckman inherited?

He lost to #1 tOSU by 7 his second year. Do you think Beckman can keep it to a one score game next week? I agree with the OP, but that doesn't change the fact that Zook should have been fired. MT should have hired a qualified coach like Minnesota did instead of a clown.

Re: Zooker

Zook ran a better program in almost every respect. All you have to do is compare the margin of loss between the two coaches the last few years.

Re: Zooker

Had Zook had the backing from the so-called Illini Nation, he would still be bringing in 1st round draft picks, and bowling every year. 6-0 against OSU at home pathetic fan support, he was wrong on some things, but he was right on his quote about the fan base here at ILL-INI.

Re: Zooker

If your barometer is winning a big game every four years, you need to set your bar higher. Zook was bad and he deserved to go. Let it be.

Oh, I see. It is now the fans fault. This is all comical.
