Re: Another one bites the dust
I can't answer that and neither can anybody else here. $ plays a big part and so does where someone wants to live. I would like to think a B1G job is better than Cincy but that is in the eye of the beholder. BZuppke wrote: Yes but is Cincinnati a better offer? Big East? We're a B1G school. Re: Another one bites the dust
i don't think that we can assume at this point that an Illinois job is better than a Cincy job. they have been very competitive in the Big East (regardless of that conferences future prospects) and just hired a big name coach in Tommy Tuberville. Regardless of B1G vs Big East, would you rather coach for a winning program with a big name coach that may be able to help you make the next step or coach at a losing program with a coach on the hot seat? felix7 wrote: I can't answer that and neither can anybody else here. $ plays a big part and so does where someone wants to live. Re: Another one bites the dust
I agree. At this point, there is no way we can assume a football job here is a step above. That doesn't mean you can't find competent to very good coaches to coach here. There are guys out there that just need an opportunity. In fact, we have many folks right on here that are so much smarter than both our coaches and our AD. At least that's what they imply. illiniranger wrote: i don't think that we can assume at this point that an Illinois job is better than a Cincy job. they have been very competitive in the Big East (regardless of that conferences future prospects) and just hired a big name coach in Tommy Tuberville. Asmussen reported in Sunday's News-Gazette that Clink returned to Ohio to be closer to his "ailing" father. http://www.illinihq.com/sports...nd-big-ten.html

http://www.illinihq.com/sports...nd-big-ten.html Say what you want about Asmussen but he is spinning and pimping hard for this Beckman/ Thomas disaster. This nugget sums up this clown and shows their general lack of knowledge of Illinois, Chicago and their lack of marketing direction in a nutshell: Beckman will take his team to Chicago’s Gately Stadium on March 29. The workout is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. but might get pushed back a bit because of the threat of Chicago’s late-afternoon traffic.
Hey Tim and Mike , I ve got a great idea lets schedule a 5:30 Friday night scrimage to get the Chicago fan base out to lovely Gately Stadium located in the heart Roseland, one of the biggest ghettos in Chicago. Not only is the area outside the stadium a war zone, but we are going to have people fight rush hour traffic to get the pleasure to watch a 2-10 team in a spring scrimage.
Why dont these idiots think for a second?
Hey Mike you want to make a statement why dont you do it at Evanston Township High School im sure Jim Phillips would like that in his back yard, and you might be able to attract some big ticket North Shore donors to boot, or perhaps look at doing something where it is easy to attract your alumni/ fan's say likethe Western or Northwest Suburbs? Perhaps Lane Stadium located at Western and Addison might appeal to the young alums on a Sat afternoon.
No one is going to go to Gately on a Friday night in March. What a clown show
Tim and Mike, Child please

Re: Another one bites the dust
I understand your point, but are they possibly more interested in targeting recruits than fans/alums? If this is the case (and being unfamiliar with the specifics of Chicago demographics) does having a scrimmage at Gately make more sense?

Gately is in Roseland one of the roughest areas of Chicago, other than South Side kids who play there regularly and are not going to be impressed , most recruits would take a pass. Last year at the Simeon/ Morgan Park game they had a riot in the stands as people though gun fire was happening. IMO, You could not pick a worse location in Chicago to showcase the program.

Ok. If you want to draw Chicago recruits, where would you go then?

How about Benedictine in Lisle or North Central in Naperville? I am sure they could workout an agreement with either school. Both facilities seem pretty nice and would allow easy access.

Why, exactly? Oh, I get it -- Beckman came to see him in the hospital after he almost died so now he's "spinning and pimping" as part of the large and growing disaster-loving conspiracy. Looking forward to you posting on an Asmussen chat and telling him why he's lying.

We need these guys much more than we need Chicago guys, who in my opinion couldn't be more overrated.

They are centrally located between the North and South Suburbs, big enough to host fans/potential recruits, and pretty easy to get to from 355 or 88. There are 2 metra stations close enough for people to access either facility from public transit as well. I realize this has nothing to do with our DB coach leaving, but I think it would be a good thing to host this event at either of these locations.

I often disagree with Hair but in this case he is spot on. Scheduling a scrimmage at 5:30 on a Friday night in, near or anywhere around Chicago is complete and utter idiocy and reflects a troubling lack of familiarity with the area that we so covet. Scheduling it at Gately in the hope that we will attract recruits from the area is laughable. We look really dull here.
