RE: Another one bites the dust
its certainly a tad troublesome at this point. We dont know whether some of these were asked to leave or did so on theri own. The replacement coach will tell us alot about this.

Lol, Thomas has to regret the crap out of not firing Beckman. Even his own guys are leaving on him... they know he's gone in a year.

RE: Another one bites the dust
Well it's not like we didn't get torched in the secondary constantly anyway. One more of the rats gone, good riddance. Now to get rid of the big cheddar stealer at the top.
Mike Thomas, a MAC coaches best friend!

ugh... I wasn't calling for all the coaches to be fired, but I guess that is the way this is heading.

I don't think Tim Beckman is cut-out for the job as our head coach. But if we didn't fire him, I have no problem with all the other coaches leaving. Clinkscale leaving...oh well.

Re: Another one bites the dust
I understand that he is leaving according to a tweet by RE. But is there an article that states why he is leaving. The posts almost all blame Thomas and TB for him leaving. Is there an article where he states he is leaving because of TB and going to Cin?

Am I the only one that thinks this is no big deal?
Aside from the loss of Gilmore, I'd say we've upgraded the coaching staff with each one that has left.
I mean, did I miss something this year? Wasn't our Secondary absolutely atrocious?

Does TB have a better guy in iine, or did Clinkscale jump ship ? The coaches who have left have by and large been guys whos units were not good -- with the exception of Gilmore.

Re: Another one bites the dust
Yeah, but it's hard to believe that there is a good secondary coach out there just waiting for the Illinois job. I hardly think Clink is irreplacable, but if we have to scramble for a hire, and it is obvious that Clink left the guy that got him his job, then it doesn't speak well for TB. Like you said, the hire will tell us a lot about how it went down. Clink seemed to have good connections in Ohio, so depending on the hire, it could hurt from a recruiting standpoint. Re: Another one bites the dust
i can't believe that these things are all part of a master plan by TB. i think that it was obvious that Beatty was the choice to go. I don't think Butkus going to FIU after their surprise hire of RT was pre-planned. I don't think Billy G leaving after the OC job went to Cubit was pre-planned - i think Billy G wanted to work for Dan Mullen more than TB, especially since I am sure he took a pay cut when he was no longer "co-OC". I think Keith Gilmore left because he was offered the same job with roughly the same pay working for a guy (VK) that he really liked working for. I have no idea why Clinkscale left.
Thus far, i like who we have hired as backfills. however, i think it speaks to how poorly TB planned his first staff. TB hired a bunch or recruiters that were not ready for their positions. our "co-OCs" had never been OCs before and our Oline coach had never been the chief Oline coach anywhere before. I think TB should have put together a similar staff to the one we currently have at first and tried to win some games before trying to rapidly upgrade talent. it takes three years to get your first really good class anyway - we just wasted 12 months with guys that will now have to hit the reset button because we have lost 4-5 of our lead recruiters? doesn't make any sense to me.
i say this so often that I'm sure it's annoying, but if you want to look at a coach that knows how to build a program it is Jerry Kill. He worked his way steadily up the ranks from JUCO, to SIU, to NIU, and after only 2 years he took a truly dreadful Minnesota program to a bowl and didn't start a single upperclassman on his offensive line with a RS-FR at QB. Jerry Kill basically has a very similar staff to the one he had at SIU and none of them are known as lights out recruiters. sure, there is probably a limit to how good Minny can be given their location and lack of home-grown Minnesota football talent. but i would trade places right now with Minny in a heartbeat if given the chance.

Re: Another one bites the dust
IMO, if a guy gets his first big coaching gig in a power conference, I would think he would pull out all the stops the first time around to assemble his "best" staff. Right?
I guess I like the OC hire in Cubit more than what left (the co-coord. thing) and the verdict is still out for me concerning the WR and OL coaches.
I don't understand why it takes complete failure for a coach to hire competant coaches? If that is indeed what is happening with this round 2 of hiring by TB. I was not calling for TB's head after year 1, but now I am really wondering wtf is going on after another coach has left.
Our last 2 head coaches couldn't hire appropriately the first time around, so the "rebuilding" stalls and we get to see if the 2nd round of coaches can help right the ship. Zooker got it right with Vic, but Petrino was just ok.
I think Cubit is going to improve the situational play calling just by stepping on the field and not really knowing the abilities of his players, so I am optimistic with him.
I am frustrated with the lack of continuity and all this moving around after one year. I feel we shouldn't be going through all this after year 1. This train wreck of the 2012 season will just not go away...

illiniranger wrote: i would trade places right now with Minny in a heartbeat if given the chance. no arguement here. If only Kill was still coaching at NIU 16 months ago, I think he would have been named our next coach...............but he wasnt. If we would have past him over for TB, there would have been hell to pay for Thomas

Re: Another one bites the dust
Very bad news. Of the five coaches that have left, four left on their own. Keep in mind a college program only has nine coaches. Given we just promoted an admin staff person to be WR coach I can't wait to see what the next hire brings us. Perhaps there is a janitor that played some DB back in peewee league who was legendary that is cleaning bathrooms at Kams. Go get him Beckman!

First step to fixing a problem is admitting and accepting you have a problem.Right now, Mike Thomas does not think he has a problem. He is in denial. Ask Thomas today about Beckman and he will respond with how he hired Brian Kelly and how Butch Jones had a rough start at Cincy and he turned it around, and how Urban Meyer says that Tim Beckman is a great coach. That is the prism of how he views Tim Beckman.

Re: Another one bites the dust
You think Beckman held onto the coaches to keep the current recruiting class and then maybe sent out the signals that if you stay your job might not be safe?

Truth is, the first staff he assembled was weak at the coaching part of the duties. Whether the new staff is better wont be known until late September. Its certainly been an unusual Jan-Feb for the staff.
