in all fairness,  this was never something ever endorsed by Zook or Beckman.   It happened to be in vogue with alot of other teams out there, and Guenther copied the model  

lets correctly fault Beckman & Thomas when its appropriate, but dont put that on them.

He won't be around when UI stops playing FCS teams.

Who is Alvarez kidding?  Who needs FCS wins when he's got easier games to win with Illinois football on the schedule with TB manning the ship?

I love that this comes from the school who has the weakest noncon in the entire nation year in year out.

I don't put it on them. We all know others will not follow this B1G trend.

Exactly what I was thinking. I didn't know Alvarez was appointed into Delany's position.

Wisconsin played #16 Utah ST and #20 Oregon St this year. Doubt any team in the country played 3 ranked teams in the non conf.

This has to happen if the Big Ten wants to make the BCS playoffs.

Sucks to watch us play a Div 1-AA team. Hopefully this is enacted.

Alvarez can pound sand. We should keep signing FCS contracts until someone takes the pen out of our hands.

If you take time to read the press on this interview you'll see he said that the Big Ten AD's have agreed on this.

Of course, once you've built your program like UW did by playing patsies, he doesn't want others to be able to do the same, and hurt his strength of schedule.

I'm sorry, is he the only person pushing this or is he just the person that told the public that all the schools had agreed?

I'm not sure but this philosophy works well for already established programs. I wish we were there already and hope we are there when and if it takes affect.

Didn't the Badgers require overtime to squeak by California State Polytechnic Institute at San Luis Obispo? At home?

(Fun fact: the Mustangs are alleged to have the longest cheer in college sports, starting with "Give me a 'C'" shortly after the opening kickoff, and ending with a response to "What's the spell" sometime in the middle of the 4th quarter.)

This is a bad idea. The 1-AA game that each team plays each year usually serves as a pseudo-scrimmage to get teams ready for the season. Almost every team plays one, very bad idea.

I don't necessarily like to watch us play FCS teams either, but we aren't ever going to be in the hunt for an NC, and this program desperately needs wins. I say we schedule them unless they go back to not counting these wins toward bowl eligibility.

It is a disgrace. I hope more teams take up the action and DO NOT play those teams. 

Only 3 of the 124+ FBS teams have not played a FCS team since the division was made those 3 are UCLA, Southern Cal, and Notre Dame.
