The Beginning of the End of Football in Illinois

The Beginning of the End of Football in Illinois

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/ct-met-fo otball-concussions-20130212,0,747478.story

Now there is another politician wanting to impose limitations for tackling during practice for all high school programs throughout the state.  You thought kids out of our magnificant state cannot compete with other states out of south or Ohio...well, now these horrific politicians will help ensure that more kids get hurt because they won't learn how to properly tackle.

Soon these same politicians will eventually ban football at the high school level and eventually at the university level for all state schools.

This state is on the verge of default and this is the all these politicians have to offer.  What a joke.

I can see it coming down the pike because Barak won't let his son play football.  There are more head injuries in socer especially among girls then head trauma in football.  What about LaCrosse guys running around with sticks in their hands.  What will happen is HS football will turn into flag football or one hand touch above the waist.  Sad!

Girls soccer =/= Guy's soccer

There are big concussion problems in girls soccer though, even if that's not germane to this issue.

On a positive note, this should help us lock down the borders in recruiting since no one will want Illinois kids. noidea

Our country is headed for a future where we are populated with imaginary sons of Barack who have fake dead girlfriends.  It will be a sad place. frown

LOL...very true, very true.

This state is already bankrupt and the sad truth of the matter is that these politicians will continue to feed & protect the system that keeps them in power, meanwhile funding for schools and the sports programs will continue to decrease with the eventual result of football programs being disbanded altogether.

As this state falls towards default...mark my words here, we will begin to see the disbandment of football programs starting at the most vulnerable schools and eventually whole regions & the whole state...save possibly the Catholic schools.

The big catalyst will be upcoming litigation and lawsuits against schools when a kid gets hurt and then insurance cost & liability skyrocket....then the beginning of the end of football really begins.

I agree with your last sentence/paragraph, but I think it will happen nationwide...not just in Illinois.  It will start in states like Illinois, but defending lawsuits/paying insurance premiums will eventually become too expensive even for states that value football higher than us (the south)

Actually, Texas currently has a twice a week limit on full contact practices and there is a proposal in the state house to limit it to one.  Coaches are not happy with it and I do not blame them.

There's also progressive legislation pending that players will have to wear skirts, blouses and bobby socks to the Friday pep rallies.

I've already sent 2 messages via facebook, best part is if you want it to go directly to her it cost $1.00.  It's amazing that this is something government thinks they should be involved with.  Do they consider cigarettes ok for 18 year olds (Seniors) but not tackling.  Interesting, I'd like to see data to back that up.  Also when is Elway, Marino, Esiason, Terrell Davis, Emmit Smith, etc going to ask for money for there concussions?  Never, because they didn't already spend all there cash.

You guys are hilarious. If your car doesn't start in the morning do you blame it on the democrates. Lol Life was absolutely perfect for everyone when the republicans were in charge 8 years ago.
all the President said was he would think long and hard about his son playing. Who wouldn't at this point? I played college ball and absolutly love the game. That's even after fracturing my spine. I am not sure if I want my son to play. It will be a educated decision and a lot will depend on the coach. I will not let him play for some idiot coach that does not teach the game the right way.
If my son has got that caveman gene then it will defiantly be yes. Not sure about that yet.
Nothing wrong with changing the game to make it safer. Football has evolved over time. We are not still playing with leather helmets. The game is not going any where.

You guys do realize there are thousands of bills introduced each session and many of them the sponsors know will go no where and are simply done for PR purposes or to satisfy a voter in their district.  Lighten up.

Be careful...your education is showing...your thoughtful response is appreciated......unfortunately the knuckle dragging mouth breathers that inhabit the once proud conservative movement post this kind of Fox gibberish.....homophobes dying to come out of the closet....no wonder these clowns can't win a national election

Yes.  I worked as a House staffer for 2.5 years.  Many of the bills that are introduced each year were never intended to become law.

So that makes it right?  Right?

So this state is on the brink on default and you're telling me that this is excusable, understandable, and should just be accepted as par for the course for tax dollars by these politicians.

This hack is from Lincolnshire, I guess they don't mind their rep's time, effort and tax dollars used with these kind of ventures.  It obviously doesn't bother you.

Got to just love these Illinois voters.  What a joke.

It is unbelievable...it is sad, and quite depressing Andrew when people like Illinidem2 and others responding here downplaying this act by a politician.  Do they understand what is going on?  We are in serious trouble and Illinidem2 is like, hey...they all do it, relax man.

Oh well...Illinois will get all this is coming to it.  Football and everything else that will be coming.
