Sounds a lot like what people said when Zook signed Benn.

RE: Treadwell to Ole Miss

I expect many stories to leak out over the next cpl yrs re Ol Miss boosters - boosting up the $ for this class. It is the only way for Ol Miss not to miss in the SEC - as it were.

That's life and the NCAA can't seem to get a handle on it - not in the SEC. (see LSU and various QB's etc)

Interesting - and even with these recruits - Ol miss will still miss in the SEC.

Don't care. I was referring to their yell team. They do not have female cheerleaders, only men dressed in milk man outfits
Well, then I guess you can understand my confusion when you said cheerleaders. I need to work on my mind reading skills, clearly.

Treadwell's teammate, Anthony Standifer, signed with Ole Miss last year. So that's the connection for him.

Guess he didn't want to compete with the big boys.
Cheerleaders not being the hottest girls on campus, any campus, aside.  This is the best comment of the thread.  I guess "the big boys" are Indiana and Purdue.

Not really considering it wasn't Zooks first year and the connection to Been was also Vontae Davis and Nate Bussey, all whom were being recruited by Locksley

as I have stated before,  I have been to OleMiss many times in the last two years as I have a soph son there.    Inter-racial dating is not common at college there,  just like it is not common at UI.   But lets not fool ourselves,  it is not a southern thing,  it is an American thing .

The thing OleMiss has going for it with black athletes is it is a school that better understands the needs of black students.  about 20% of the students are black,  and blacks are probably 40-50% of the population in and around Oxford.   Compare that to UI in Champaign and you can see where there black athlete feels more at home there.  Oxford the town,  and Ole Miss the campus,  is one of the best places to go to school I have ever seen.   Small flagship school in an idyllic town, that is often in the top 10 towns to live in , in the whole country.

It is what it is.

Ole Miss is having a great year recruiting,  and they can move up to 9 or 10 , from 12 , should they get a committment from Nkemdiche.  They wont win the SEC West this coming year or next,  but they should be able to break into the top 1/2 of the conference should they be able to do this kind of recruiting next year as well.

Yeah, this looks like a great school where black athletes can feel at home.

While that was awful (actually more stupid than anything), the black athletes there may have felt better considering the crowd that was there in protest of this embarrassing and pathetic display.

The athletes are far and away treated like kings at Ole Miss.  You will find them in the Grove tailgating with old white folks after games.  It's not perfect, but the picture you posted doesn't represent the majority (obviously).

did you even bother to read any news accounts of what happened that day in Oxford?

what exactly is your problem with Ole Miss,  Mississippi, or the South ?    Do you realize that UI has maybe 6% of its students that call themselves african american ,  and at Ole Miss its 17%.     Thats 3 times as many .    And you think blacks feel more out of place there than at UI ?

When I moved from NC to Iowa awhile back, I was shocked at the level of racism in corn country compared to tobacco country.  Much worse here.

Re: He is going to melt in that summer heat.

I'm an Ole Miss student from Champaign Il. I love the illini and i love my rebels. I consider myself a die hard illini basketball fan but have fallen in love with the football program down here.

As far as the KKK picture posted.... I mean come on. The university and its students have no connection to that organization. The KKK can show up anywhere they want and practice their freedom of speech. The student body here is so far from being racists. Our student body president and home coming queen this past year were african american. It's almost like people over compensate and be extra accepting to make up for the past. People would be absolutely blown away by oxford and its people if they just took a visit. It took my 5 seconds after stepping on campus to know that was where i was going to spend the next 4 years.

I grew up going to every Illini home game and I even drove back this past season to be on the field for that awful Penn St. game. Gameday in Champaign will always have a special place in my heart but it doesnt even compare... in the least.. to games in Oxford. I invite all of you to come down next year and try to tell me I'm wrong. No where does it like Ole Miss and once you experience it you might understand how Ole Miss had a top 5 recruiting class.
Go Illini!! Hotty Toddy!!

I know the Klan is not the same force it was 50 years ago and the majority of southerners are outwardly accepting of black athletes, but internal prejudices are still deeply ingrained in the South. I went to college in Memphis for a year, and was appalled at the racism on display among my college's small student body. While students wouldn't admit to being racist, there were a large number of Confederate flags hanging in dorm rooms. And don't say the flag isn't racist.  It represents an attempted rebellion and a way of life predicated on a racial caste system. Even the nickname Ole Miss is a tribute to that old way of life. Mississippi is often cited as the state with the worst racial history.

I'm sure white fans treat black football players well. But how many of those white fans would feel comfortable with their daughter marrying a black man.

And don't take anything I've said as an endorsement of the U of I. I was also disappointed by the racial dynamics on campus during my time there.

Also, I don't post often, but I do read these boards a lot. You like to throw insults and patronizing remarks around anytime you disagree with a person. Doing so is perfectly within your rights, but it does nothing but detract from the credibility of your opinions. Especially since you resort to such tactics on an anonymous message board where you never have to face those you insult.

if you cant stand the heat, then get out of the kitchen

You fired the first shot with the post and picture that would give the less informed a very different opinion of what that campus is really about.  As if that type of protest happens there often and is accepted there .

It was a totally uncalled for post,  maybe you dont even regret it,  I dont know and dont care, but when I send money there every month, and someone attacks the place as you did,  it gets personal.

take it for what its worth.   your post was assinine

I did not imply that every white person at Ole Miss is a racist. Yet, it is undeniable that there remains on and around that campus a vocal minority who express extremely racist attitudes. To me, that would make it an uninviting place to spend four years of my life.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/...needed/1696475/

http://www.dailykos.com/story/...man-at-Ole-Miss

I believe that the administration and a majority of the students there would like to change the image of the university. But that image is still part of the school and probably an attraction for individuals who still hold antiquated racial beliefs. The following link is a pretty fair take on the issue of race and football at Ole Miss, and the writer would probably tend to agree more with you than me. But to say that it is assinine to imply that racism at that school might make black students feel unwelcome ignores the history and culture of the campus.

And I can take the heat. I just happen believe that civility makes discourse and communication more effective and constructive. I admit the photo and comment may have lacked that tone of civility, and for that I apologize. But I stand by the point I was making.
