as I have stated before,  I have been to OleMiss many times in the last two years as I have a soph son there.    Inter-racial dating is not common at college there,  just like it is not common at UI.   But lets not fool ourselves,  it is not a southern thing,  it is an American thing .

The thing OleMiss has going for it with black athletes is it is a school that better understands the needs of black students.  about 20% of the students are black,  and blacks are probably 40-50% of the population in and around Oxford.   Compare that to UI in Champaign and you can see where there black athlete feels more at home there.  Oxford the town,  and Ole Miss the campus,  is one of the best places to go to school I have ever seen.   Small flagship school in an idyllic town, that is often in the top 10 towns to live in , in the whole country.

It is what it is.

Ole Miss is having a great year recruiting,  and they can move up to 9 or 10 , from 12 , should they get a committment from Nkemdiche.  They wont win the SEC West this coming year or next,  but they should be able to break into the top 1/2 of the conference should they be able to do this kind of recruiting next year as well.

I have lived in the South for years.

I lived in WPB and Ft. Lauderdale which really isn't the South but also lived in other places like Cary N.C. Inter-racial dating is not common in Cary but there was quite a bit in Clarksville Tenn. and a few others places I have spent some time in. I have also spent a lot of time on the internet sports boards and have heard football recruits, in particular, talk about some of the SEC school hostesses. Some of the coaches but particularly the rich alums who help their school's recruiting ask their recruits what kind of girl they want and they see to it that the recruit gets what he desires. Money....girls.....whatever. This schools in question swear that their hostesses do not ever do that but every once in a while you hear of players say they get what they want. They are not supposed to talk about it but they do. Young men like to brag and young men have trouble keeping their mouth shut. It is a very strong enticement for many. Money and sex sell well. This probably goes on everywhere but mostly where football reigns king. The southern schools will be damned if they take a back seat to some damn Yankee school and even though they will lose some of their best to the top Northern schools they will fight like hell to keep their best. Look at what the Miami Hurricanes booster was accused of? Girls, prostitutes, money, drugs, whatever it takes.

5 star FSU player, Greg Reid, had himself a hell of a visit to Alabama a few years ago

He hooked up with his hostess (tweeted about it) and smoked with Chiefs DB Javy Arenas (former bama player)

that is pretty much what goes on for all visits at all schools.

Really? I think it's very unfortunate that a girl would make early judgement and never give someone a chance because of their skin color.

No way. I'm sure similar things happen, but only stars are treated like Reid was.

I bet if you asked the OLineman off the record what their craziest recruiting visit was... it wouldn't be that crazy for about 80%+ of them

I assume you are black and can speak from experience, correct?  If this is not the case, where is your proof?  I mean, I attended a southern school and I assume you did as well are least came from the south to make this kind of generalized statement...correct?

Re: Treadwell to Ole Miss

Ole Miss also landed DE Elijah Daniel from Indiana the other day.

They are already on the radar of clifton garrett(visiting in April), and Jauan Wesley has taken notice of their fan support. Treadwell is making an impact off the field right now with other recruits, and they are taking notice. Also, the Ole Miss fan base is relentless in showing support for these recruits.
It's not officially official until UofI has a press release about it, which they did today on Fightingillini.com. Thats the the official site for the university.

This is boring.  Count me among those who couldn't care less about Ole Miss football.

Sorry man, you actually asked why it was unfortunate that two people of opposite races would not date. I'm done talking to you.

When you make absolutely idiotic general statements like you did about a certain race all the way down to their hair color...racists like you I will press big time.  Think before you make stupid statements and you won't have people like me coming after you to explain yourself, which obviously you have nothing but racism and general stupidity to back yourself.

Are you freaking kidding me?

Geez, you're mad.

The other poster with a son at ole miss agreed with me. I go to Alabama and grew up with the type of girls that go to Ole Miss/ Alabama. I'm about as qualified as anyone to say what I said.

You still don't get it you absolute racist bigot.  When anyone, and I don't care where they are from, makes negative castigations against any race, and then goes on to expand on the gender of that race down the very hair color....I will come after that person and expose them for their horrific ignorance.

Again, think before you type.

Re: He is going to melt in that summer heat.

I attended two "southern" schools after graduating from UI (i.e. south of mason dixon) and frequented many, many more. I found interracial dating extremely uncommon, in particular at SEC schools. In fact I found interracial friendships uncommon. I visited Baton Rouge frequently and was disturbed to learn that many fraternities wouldnt even allow black athletes at their parties, despite being infatuated with them on Saturdays. One even had a "protest," in the form of making pledges labor outside on MLK day because they didnt believe MLK warranted a holiday (college students that wanted less holidays?).

Oxford's reputation was worse, and it has a long and decorated history of racism. The school has been fighting the use, to little avail, of the Confederate "battle flag" at home games. While there is some historical debate, most agree that the nickname Ole Miss has its origin as a slave term for the slaveowners' wife. As recently as November, the campus had to quell a highly racist demonstration after the president's reelection.

Conversely I found interracial dating quite common at UI--not necessarily between AfAm and Caucasian, but def between Asian/Pac Islander varietals (of which I am one) and non-. UI also had a far more diverse student body than every southern school I visited, and was highly integrated on a social level.

Anecdotal, so take it FWIW

I actually like when recruits go to schools other than the national powers.

Benn did the same thing when he came here from DC. I applaud Treadwell and wish him well.

Shouldn't you be on the Baylor board, or something?
