Re: Treadwell to Ole Miss
Wow, really wierd spot for him to land. Was there a prior relationship with any players/coaches? I thought OK State made a lot of sense for him given their offense (aside from IL of course)

The same Anthony Standifer that is related to Mikel Leshoure.......

Re: Treadwell to Ole Miss
Standifer, who I believe is a former teammate is there, and his mother also loved the Ole Miss experience. He's been very high on Ole Miss since his visit.

Cool. I like when top rated guys choose schools that aren't too prestigious

Re: Treadwell to Ole Miss
Good luck to the young man in his football in Miss. It is a different lifestyle at Ole Miss compared to Crete, IL. At least it is not meetchickens University.

RE: Treadwell to Ole Miss
I am in Oxford , Miss right now, as I have a son here . I have been to over 30 college campuses in my lifetime and this town & campus is the nicest one I have ever been to. Prettiest girls at college, bar none, and they have an explosive offense with Hugh Freeze as coach
It's not " Harvard of the South " like Vandy is , but it is highly respected in the south . Lets face it , 99% of the players could not care less about academic rankings . Plenty of current NFLers went here .
I would have loved to see him at UI , but since that wasn't gonna happen. This is a decent place for him. It's also very easy to get to from Illinois . Took me 9 hours yesterday from Burr Ridge, IL

RE: Treadwell to Ole Miss
Seems like he has been an Ole Miss lean for quite a while. An odd choice if you asked me. Just glad he didn't end up in Ann Arbor.

Bought and sold ... Looks like they'll get Nkemdiche too with some more shady stuff ... Boosters, jobs to family members ... SEC baby!

Re: Treadwell to Ole Miss
I'm sorry, when a top recruit from the midwest randomly ends up at a bottom tier SEC school, there's a grade issue in there somewhere (see Craig Drummond).

Re: Treadwell to Ole Miss
Is Ole Miss lower than any other SEC school academically, because he had offers from about every one. I haven't watched Ole Miss but I wonder how their passing game is, it looks like they have two 4* QBs coming in with this class, that likely had a lot to do with his decision. nicksmithfanclub wrote: I'm sorry, when a top recruit from the midwest randomly ends up at a bottom tier SEC school, there's a grade issue in there somewhere (see Craig Drummond).

RE: Treadwell to Ole Miss
Treadwell has gone to Miss because he could go there !
That's the way it is sometimes. Important thing is the fact that he was never going to come to Illinois even if he had a 5.0.

But that wasn't really my point. The stronger programs have less need to gamble on academic risks. If you're a top player and not an academic risk who wants to play SEC football, you're probably more likely to end up at Alabama, LSU, etc. If you're an academic risk, the lesser SEC teams will take an even bigger chance on you, much like UI took a lot of academic and character risks under Zook (and they often never played a down). I know Treadwell supposedly had offers from all sorts of schools at one point or another, but you never know which options were really available at this point.

Re: Treadwell to Ole Miss
X 10000000 something is fishy for the #1 WR to select a school like that. nicksmithfanclub wrote: I'm sorry, when a top recruit from the midwest randomly ends up at a bottom tier SEC school, there's a grade issue in there somewhere (see Craig Drummond).
*-season includes games later vacated due to NCAA sanctions; actual records were 35-2 in 1995-96 and 38-2 in 2007-08. NCAA Tournament appearances were also vacated in 1996 and 2008.

RE: Treadwell to Ole Miss
Agree 100%. I'm in Memphis now and my wife is from Oxford / Ole Miss. We go to games all the time. I honestly don't know why an undecided college football recruit wouldn't want to go to an SEC school. Better football, better women, real girlfriends. Re: Treadwell to Ole Miss
It seems more and more that the days are past when good downstate players would come to Illinois. Zook didn't seem to care about downstate and now that he's gone we don't get leftovers from SEC territory either. I recall Mike White's statement that we can't win the Big Ten with players that Ohio State and Michigan don't want. It's going to be dismal.
