Think we'll be waiting a long time for an answer
Seven is a lot (assuming no horrible injury problem, etc.), but it's not really impossible.

Some are pretty easy: Gonzaga and Mizzou obviously.
Could we lose to Hawaii?  Definitely, so that's three.

What about Maui?  Could we go 0-3?  If you get unlucky, it can definitely happen.  If you lose your first game, the second game can still be a decent team.  After that, if your third game is a team that got upset, you can still have a nontrivial opponent.

That still leaves Georgia Tech and Auburn.  These are teams we should beat given the locations of the games, but losing to a high major while putting in an entirely new offense and defense is not beyond the realm.

The bottom line is that we could lose as many as eight games without dropping a game to a Gardner Webb, although some pretty good teams have done that sort of thing at times as well.  It's very unlikely in my opinion, but we could lose seven if we struggle early without losing to an absolutely weak team, although that too can happen.  I think we probably go 11-3 or 10-4 at worst, but those are not "gimmee" numbers for a team in transition.
That is equivalent to my answer, but it would not have been so long-winded. I think Maui will be a disaster.
I blame that on Sandy!

Re: Get your Predictions in for the Record!

OK, having seen both exhibition games so that I have at least a modicum of actual information to base my wild guesses on, here goes.

Overall regular season record: 19-13

BTT: 1-1

Bubble team, but we make the field of 68 because the NCAA Selection Committee feels they owe us after screwing us so many times in the past (hey, it's just a theory noidea).

My prediction is based on 11-3 OOC and 8-10, but a worse OOC and better B1G result would not surprise me.  Coach Groce says we will continue to improve (even relative to other teams) all season long, and I think he is right.

Go Illini!

Harv, when I went through the schedule, I came up with exactly the same record as you did.  How about that?

I'm hoping for a surprise.  I'm hoping for at least 23 wins on the year and an NCAA bid.  I dont think 19 wins gets a bid.

Got my vote, we can not afford many more like this, it will require a resurection if we do have another one like this.

12-2 OOC
10-8 (tie 5th BT)
1-1 BTT

NCAA 7 seed.  Beat the 10 and lose to the 2

24-12 overall  (no truth to the rumor that a John Groce statue has been commissioned)

BP isn't all big ten, but DJ earns second team accolades.

This is a transition year, hopefully people will be understanding of that and not turn on the team or staff if the record isn't what we would expect under normal circumstances.

Big 10 Standing:  3

NCAA/NIT: NCAA - 2d Round

And just for fun, what All-B10 team Brandon Paul ends up on. 1st Team

A lot of experience on this team.

I will honestly be surprised if we go much under the 19 wins in the regular season (assuming no players lost, etc.), but I would not be shocked at 17-15.  I will not be at all surprised if we do considerably better, but I don't think we can "expect" it when putting in two new systems against the best conference in the country.

There are a lot of variables as far as the bid (my comment about the committee obviously being facetious however much it should be true ;-), but I think 19-13 with 1-1 in the BTT makes the field of 68 this year (subject to the usual small conference tourney upsets, etc.).

Big 10 Standing: 9th

NCAA/NIT:  none

B Paul:  third team

It is going to be a long year, but not quite the hopelessness of the football program.

It's a minor compulsion. I can deal with it if I want to.

Re: Get your Predictions in for the Record!

Ok, this is very cheap so feel free to dismiss it or call me a liar.  Never had time to sit down and go through the picks.  But I swear to you all my opinion has not changed.  Wish I would have gotten them in.  Perhaps someone familiar with my posts can confirm my optimism.  I did guarantee no worse than fifth in the BT.  It is somewhere on the board and I can find it to prove it.  I did add a win as I would have had us going 2-1 in Maui.  I can't unpredict that and can't see myself adding an extra loss to make up for it.  I was very much on the fence between 2-1 or 1-1 in the BTT so maybe we should consider that my makeup penalty for being three weeks late.

OOC - 12-2  (losing to Gonzaga and Missouri)
conference - 11-7
BTT 1-1
overall 24-10
NCAA second round
BP - 2nd team all big ten, maybe AA honorable mention, but doubt it.
I would bet my beach house on it.  -JoeyBambino (10:42am 3/20/2012-11:30am 3/20/2012) RIP
