I grew up in the Bay area and was a Cal fan. Cal hasn't been a relevant football school since Joe Kapp and hasn't developed the fan base at all.

That said, I think that now that Cal has committed to facilities it needs the fan base to get behind the team. What that will take is..............a Rose Bowl appearance. Win or lose, hopefully for you a win.

It is going to take something Earth shattering to invigorate your base, and once that happens you will move to the next level.

Course, UW chose to not be a relevant football school for 20 years now. I fail to see the difference in your two situations at this time. It's a race to see who can get to the Rose first.
