Season Ticket Fiasco Post Rating (2 votes)

My son, who has had season tickets for several years, told me that the Athletic Department is requiring people to purchase next year's season tickets during December.  This is absolutely ridiculous as you have no clue who will be next year's coach, you don't have the exact dates for the 7 home games, except for two, and it's Christmas time when people do not have a lot of extra funds to be spending on tickets that they normally plan on purchasing later in the spring.

What this tells me is that the AD is only concerned about bringing in some cash before the end of the year, and they don't give a damn about season ticket holders.  This is very disappointing.

Here is the complete info from the AD website

Your information is not correct.  The time frame starts the third week of December and runs through the end of January for ticket renewals and the required accompaning donations do not have to be made until the end of April.  Very little of the "cash" will be in before the end of the year.  Also, the new coach will be in place long before either of those dates.  All our home games will be on Saturdays (first THREE are set), as we got stuck for the PAC-12 mandated weeknight game this past season, and Big Game will be the last game of the regular season.

"Renewal Information

Cal football season ticket renewals will take place during a new timeframe for the upcoming 2013 season. Fans will have a 6-week window to renew, with the opportunity to earn great perks and incentives for renewing early. Season ticket holders will receive complete renewal, pricing, benefits and upgrade information in the coming weeks.
Renewal Window - Dec. 17, 2012 - Jan. 31, 2013

Required per-seat donations for renewing season ticket holders can be made at the time of ticket payment, or delayed until April 30, 2013.

Upgrade Event
Cal will host its first-ever Select-a-Seat event at Memorial Stadium in early 2013 for all renewing season ticket holders outside of the premium Endowment Seating Program (ESP) sections. The event will be a first look at newly available season seat locations and sections for the upcoming season.

This appears to be the driving force behind the earlier renewal period.  Something that I'm interested in since I would like to change seats if possible.  Only problem is you have to lock into your renewal before knowing whether or not you even can change seats.  Would really like to know that before renewing, but that's not realistic until you know for sure who has renewed or not.

Anyone have ideas on what the perks are?  Tie breaker in seat reselection?

I was fairly happy getting to T this year, so any improvements are going to be minor, I suspect.  It's our greatest incentive to renew - waiting for sunnier days.

Am I the only one made nervous by this statement? What "newly available" locations? Will some current locations be no longer available?

There has been a lot of previous angst that they may want to move the students to the end zone, like many other colleges have done. I hope this is NOT the direction they are headed.

I guess I will find out at the "seat selection event".

I think what is meant by "newly available locations" is that it is expected, and very reasonably so, that a lot of people will not renew. Their seats will become "newly avaialble". A lot of people bought seats in 2012 because of the stadium remodeling. Others will not renew because we no longer have a winning program. Their seats will be up for grabs when it is discovered who will not renew.
