Mike MacIntyre Passes Audition Post Rating (1 vote)

Watched the entire SJS-Louisiana Tech game and liked what I saw on both sides of the ball from San Jose State.  MacIntyre's offense is well conceived and is close to the type of offense I'd like to see at Cal. It is balanced with a lot of plays with the QB under center.

On the other hand Dykes failed his audition and he should be immediately taken off the coaching list.

I still favor people like John Gruden, Herm Edwards, Ron Rivera, and Greg Roman.

There are two problems I see with MacIntyre.  One is that he does not have ties on the west coast, except for what he has built in the last couple of years at SJS.  The other is that he would be a down grade from Tedford and I'm not lowering our sights on who could coach the Bears.

Do you recall ...

Wait a minute! Is it McIntyre?
From Recordnet.com

» McIntyre is rumored to be a possible replacement for Cal's Jeff Tedford, who met Sunday with athletic director Sandy Barbour. The Golden Bears finished 3-9 after Saturday's loss to Oregon State. Tedford resurrected Cal's program but is on the hot seat with losing records in two of the past three seasons and a 9-18 mark in the Pac-12 (Pac-10) the past three seasons

Maybe there's some point in talking about MacIntire as opposed to all the random names that have been thrown around?

Re: Mike MacIntyre Passes Audition

The majority of his roster is from California with a few kids from Utah Arizona and maybe 1 or 2 other western states. Seems he has plenty of West Coast recruiting contacts. Plus look at UCLA, Mora had never recruited and he brought in assts who had the connections.

With the internet and all the recruiting services that now exist I don't think the West Coast thing is as important anymore, in fact ASU and UA and WSU brought in coaches w/o West Coast roots

Re: Mike MacIntyre Passes Audition

McIntyre at this time would seem to be the most logical choice.  He was the College Football Offensive Coordinator of the year while at Duke, and now has completely turned a program around at San Jose State that nobody thought would ever be a winner again.  He has succeded in his past two jobs against very high odds

Sandy Barbour better get off her behind and hire this guy quickly.  Right now, the Cal job is one of the few high profile open job openings but that will change quickly in the next couple weeks as more coaches are fired as well as take on potentially much more lucrative NFL opportunites.   There are many NFL teams out there that will make serious runs at both David Shaw and Jim Mora, and the Colorado job is almost sure to open before the end of the season

It would not be a good sign if this thing drags on for more than another week

A few problems with MacIntyre....

He's a Vandy Alum and the Vandy job will probably be opening up in the next few days once theire head Coach takes a better job.

Forget about Peterson Post Rating (1 vote)

Dan has a tweet that he is 98% sure that it will not be Peterson. Apparently, Peterson & Tedford are close and share the same lawyer. The thought is that Peterson would not want to embarass Tedford by taking the job.

To me, Peterson does not make sense. He could not deal with the academic expectations at Cal and Peterson is not within Cal's budget. One would expect that he would want north of $3 million plus a guaranty of 4 plus yrs.

I know people have their favorite candidates, but it does not make great sense to pull a name out of a hat. Unless we are overlooking something, Peterson does not look like a plausible alternative.

The same applies for a variety of reason to names like Gruden (can you think Gruden & Cal in the same thought), Herm Edwards (too old, too far removed) ... Why not think in terms of the possible?

Re: Mike MacIntyre Passes Audition

MacIntyre is an intriguing possibility.  Heard him interviewed on the radio and he seems very well adjusted to coaching on the west coast at this point.  He now knows the territory, says that there is plenty of talent to draw on in CA alone (it's keeping it from leaving CA and going to the NW that's the trick), and runs a multiple set offense with many elements fromt he spread and pro-set.  When I saw Dykes team on offense, it reminds me to much of the "prairie dog" offense that Cal/Tedford used this year.  Not a fan of calling the play at the line of scrimmage.

Can Vandy truly compete in the SEC?

People complained about Tedford's salary, to get Peterson

Cal's AD will have to pay Peterson twice as much as what Tedford got. Why? If Peterson is making more than $2 million in Boise. Northern California is much more expensive than the Boise ares, so for Cal to just equal the same living standard to what Peterson has at Boise, they will most likely have to pay almost $4 million a year to Peterson.

Cal finally built the state of the art football facility, do you actually believe that they can afford to hire someone like Chris Peterson? Also, have you looked at the past Boise State coaches who coached elsewhere (Nutt, Koetter, Hawkins)? Hawkins ruined Colorado's program. Koetter barely had a winning record. Nutt created a mess at Arkansas and isn't doing much better at Ole Miss. What makes Peterson any better?

It seems like Cal will most likely end up with Hue Jackson or that SJSU coach MacIntyre.

Now that Tedford is fired, I hope Lane Kiffin would hire him as OC. I think Lane needs to pay more attention to the whole team rather than just focusing on the offense. Plus, he needs to stop running flag football practices and start getting more physical.

Re: Mike MacIntyre Passes Audition FOR A JOB OTHER THAN CAL

Seems this Stanford fellow does not want the San Jose coach to go to Cal considering they nearly beat them. Consider what he would do with the new facilities and recruiting. He has true players coach personality. I think he could do alot for Cal. There may be others but this would be an easier transition for the coach, his family, Cal Bears team and the University. He would have to be a top tier choice for Cal. His defense and offense were awesome now I know why a Stanford fan should be afraid!!eek

Re: Mike MacIntyre Passes Audition

Two words... Ben Braun.

The last time Cal got all excited over a mid level program's coach who had couple of good years but no long term consistency, they hired Ben and then pretty much languished in mediocrity for 10 yrs.

Re: Forget about Peterson

Not sure Petersen (not Peterson) could handle Cal's academic requirements? Huh? Did you read  the Girls Vice Principal's farewell letter. Dead last, below ASU and U of A, in graduation rate. Nearly ineligible for bowl games. Football-wise, Boise State has comparable "academics".......

How many Boise State coaches succeeds after Boise??

So far none!!

Koetter didn't do so well at ASU.

Dan Hawkins put Colorado in ruins.

Nutt wasn't that good with Arkansas or Ole Miss.
