I need therapy

I need therapy

I'm trying to develop a desire to watch the Cal - Oregon game, but having a lot of trouble getting into it.

Last week, I was on an airplane when the SC - Oregon game was played. I didn't have the headphones so all I had was the video of the game, and it was an amazing thing to see. The guy sitting in front of me also got into it, and we had a little action going between us as to whether the combined score would break 100. The game ended just as the plane was landing. We were almost ready to petition the pilot to extend the flight so that we could see the end. Fortuitously, my luggage was stuck in the overhead storage a few rows back and I had to wait until the crowd cleared so I watched the end of the game as I waited. Amazing. No defense, but other than a computer game, it was the most action packed, entertaining football I have ever seen.

I can't see Cal competing with Oregon so the Cal game will be totally one-sided, but does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can watch this slaughter and still maintain an interest? A drinking game? A prop bet? Whatever. Could we petition the AD to put a blood pressure cuff on Tedford and link it to a meter on the scoreboard that shows his blood pressure? When his sun glasses fly off his cap and his head explodes the game is over.

Re: I need therapy

I'll be headin' to the game and will be rootin' for the Golden Bears even though the game will most likely be one-sided.  I'm hopin' Cal will be competitive and stay somewhat close the first half . . . say 14 points.  I never bought into Coach Singletary's belief that "there is no moral victory".  Yes a loss is a loss, but if Cal could keep it close, I'd be happy with the effort.

With Oregon's juggernaut of an offense, the Bears' defense will get tanked.  For Cal fans, lets hope Oregon has some turn-overs that Cal can capitalize on and that Allan Bridgford (assuming he's the starting QB) can sustain a couple of long drives and help keep Cal's defense off the field.

I must admit that going to this weekend's game, it'll be like going to a Warriors game to see the Heat, Celtics, Spurs, or Lakers play, or an A's game when the Yankees are in town.  Yes, I'm rootin' for the home team, but having a marquis team, in this situation, Oregon, in town will be exciting to watch.

For you Oregon fans headin' down . . . safe travels to you all and hope you'll have time to enjoy Berkeley and S.F. Bay Area!

Prop bet

Longboard -- You bring the right perspective. Watching the game is a chance to see Oregon's amazing offense.

Need a prop bet -- how 'bout the attendance for the Oregon game? I say 45,000.

Re: Prop bet

jonfromwlv . . .

Definitely 45K at a minimum.  I'd chance to say 52.3K.  I think having the #3 / #2 team in the nation coming to town has to spark some interest amongst Cal fans . . . even with the low expectations of a victory.  On the flip side, the game will be televised on ESPN and the weather, though not expected to rain, will be cooler and that just may dissuade some fans from making the trip to Memorial.

If Oregon does win Saturday night, I hope they'll win out against Stanford and Oregon State, and win the PAC12 championship game.  I'd love to have a PAC12 team in the National Championship game and better yet, hoist the crystal ball.  If it is not going to be Cal . . . let it be a PAC12 team.

Cal's chances lay in Oregon's let down after last week. Our offense played about a perfect a game as they could....don't know if they can sustain that. So, 4 turnovers in our end of the field, your o holding on for some first downs, you guys are in it.

15-13 anyone?

Are you nuts? 15-13?

I would bet the farm (no, not that one) that Oregon has to score at least 30, and Cal is so hobbled by injuries on offense that producting 13 points seems optimistic. It's rather an exhibition game at this point, and it will be interesting to see Oregon close-up and personal, but not looking for much of a game.

Lots of Oregon alumn in the East Bay, not to mention the bandwagon types or people wanting to see a good offensive show.  Not to mention a night game. So I expect a close sell out.
