Upshaw
Does anybody else think this is getting alot like the Pat Hill/Sean Norton scenario a while back?

RE: Upshaw
No similarity at all.
Norton I was told often outperformed Brandstater in practice. For whatever reason he never got the chance to get any regular work in games.
Upshaw practices like he plays - I have seen this. He will not be a freshman next year. I hope this means steadiness in practice and games.

Re: Upshaw
If Tark had held Winfred Walton out that half season he played instead of playing him when he was out of shape & not ready to perform. He possibly would have returned the next season hungry, in shape & ready to perform to his capabilities instead of embarrassing himself the way he did. Sometimes players have to be broken down & rebuilt in the manner best for the team & themselves. As a result in Winfreds case, he never recovered, never devoloped to his potential & threw away what should've been a promising career. In Roberts case, I fully expect him to be motivated to work his butt off this off season & return a better man & better player. Why because he now understands it's not going to be given to him because he was a highly rated recruit. I saw the fire in his eyes when he played sparingly the last game that he needs to play with all the time. CRT knows he's got a diamond in the rough & he's stoking that kid to get the best out of him instead of just handing it to him. Fresno St. potentially will have a dominant frontcourt for serveral years with the guys we have in the fold.

^^^^^^^ I'll give it 2&1/2 stars ^^^^^^
Insider makes a good argument but Walton would have never played for a guy like CT in the first place. At least Tark got a few good games out of him he did average over 11 ppg and over 6 rpg in a little over 21 mpg on a star studded team. I remember a few 20 point plus outings too. He didn't come back because he saw the writing on the wall for Tark. I do agree he could have used a little more motivation either internal or external but if Tark handled him the way CT handles players he'd of been gone sooner. Handling players and dealing with their delicate psyches is a tough job and where some of the top coaches make their money. The marine drill Sargent approach doesn’t work for everyone.

Hill threw Norton to the wolves so Brandstater wouldn't go into complete p*ssy mode like he would normally do that season.

RE: Upshaw
I remember one game Norton getting into the game and playing very well...and we never saw him again. Hill did not like the fans questioning his choice of Brandstater. CT knows fans want to see Upshaw...that's why I threw that out there.

Urban legend just like some cat (no pun intended) named Couger Williams being able to play football at Fresno State. Norton was not college D-1 QB material and the last time I checked Brandstater was drafted in the NFL. Didn't last long but being drafted tells you a little bit about his skill set. Once again how did Norton do at Northern Arizona?

CT knows fans want to see Upshaw...that's why I threw that out there. You are probably remembering the game where Hawaii smoked us big time. If I remember correctly it was out of hand after the first quarter. TB tweaked his knee so Hill went with Norton who racked up some decent stats when the Dogs were getting their arses handed to them big time. That scenario is not a real good indicator of a QB's game day ability.

Once again how did Norton do at Northern Arizona? Having to play against Hawaii, LSU and Boise St is not what I would call a fair shot. TB's only asset to the NFL is to warm the jock up for the starting QB. And Norton never got on the field at N. Arizona, but I don't blame the kid for losing his passion for the game when he got a raw deal here.
