Hawaii the welfare state is going broke. If Hawaii FB does go away it will not be noticed with mess the state is in.

Their program should be canceled solely on how bad their announcers are. On a serious note, that may be a precursor of things to come for many non-p5 programs.

Re: Wow...Hawaii Football

So what's next if Hawai'i drops football?

AAC East

1.  Cincinnati

2.  UConn

3.  ECU

4.  Memphis

5.  Navy

6.  Temple

7.  Tulane

8.  UCF

9.  USF

AAC West

1.  Boise State

2.  BYU

3.  Fresno State

4.  Houston

5.  New Mexico
6.  SDSU

7.  SMU

8.  Tulsa

9.  UNLV

IMHO, the changes that are taking place in college football right now are such that only the AAC OR the MWC will survive as a top conference. Not both.  And it Hawai'i drops football, that could be the trigger that brings down the MWC.  There is no decent replacement and the AAC might see it as the opportunity to eliminate the MWC.  Without the MWC, it is very possible that this AAC becomes the final piece in a P6.

Supposing that the B12 looking East to go to 16 than I think that the ACC and MWC will have to create a best of the rest conference to challenge the P5.

Exactly.  Somebody leaks the story that the AAC and MWC are talking and a "grant of rights" provision is on the table, and the Big XII will take up to six more teams in about 20 minutes.  If they look east, then the MWC expands and kills the AAC.  And if the Big XII looks west, then the AAC expands and kills the MWC.  If the Big XII takes six from the pool, however, then the "best of the rest" conference may be the best damn conference that the FCS has ever seen.

The train has already left the station.  The only way these teams get in with the big boys is by invitation to an existing P5 conference...not by creating a bigger league with more crappy teams.

Probably.  IMHO, this conference might have a shot at being a P6.  But this conference either would never exist or would never exist for long because it would be undercut by a Big XII expansion  to 16.  And whatever is left wouldn't be very attractive.

There would be a lot of history lost. In addition, Hawaii as a state is passionate about football.

They should schedule only home games. That would drop their costs down by a large amount.

This.

It may be the best of the rest, but why would the power conferences want this group? Individual schools may bring something, but collectively, this group brings nothing.

After the 2011 season, both Hawaii and Fresno State made coaching changes after Hawaii was 6-7 and Fresno State was 4-9. The next two years Hawaii went 4-20 and Fresno State went 20-6. I know everyone on the Barkboard is aware of these numbers, but I wanted to write it down because it shows how fortunate we have been and how unfortunate the last two years have been for Hawaii.

Norm Chow is killing their program.

Can you imagine how few people would be in Bulldog Stadium if we were 3-9 and 1-11 the last two years?

If the goal is to maximize CF competitiveness and ultimately generate the most revenue, then why would a "Power Conferences" leave in Kansas, Indiana, North Carolina State, Washington State, Colorado, etc., etc. and leave out a Fresno State, Boise State or UCF?

We hear a steady drumbeat of President 'speak' about "tradition," "research," "academics," blah, blah, blah.  Then when it matters they all act in a selfish manner to protect the consolidation of TV monies regardless of the aforementioned values of conference affiliation.

I agree with you that creating another Power Conference will just add more marginal players to the mix.  The only durable fix I see lies in picking the best 70 +/- programs regardless of conference affiliation.

Re: Wow...Hawaii Football

I honestly don't see how they aren't a bigger program. Kids get to live in Hawaii for free for 4-5 years and play in a pro style stadium. I guess football just isn't that big with the locals. Do any of y'all know if like when Fresno has played over there, if your guys got some beach time in?I know it cost $$$ to do extra stuff like that but I feel like that would be a nice recruiting tool.
