Fresno State ranked No. 40

I don't know what it means that Matt Murschel has ranked us at No.40(I don't even know who the guy is).  Has any other ranking come out yet?

USA Today is publishing their rankings from worst to best, they are down in the 50s and have not mentioned Fresno yet, might see Fresno ranked in the 40s.  USA Today has not ranked Boise or Utah State either.  San Diego came in at 56 I believe, and San Jose in the 70's I think, like 78.

The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common.  They don't alter their views to fit the facts. They alter the facts to fit their views.

Nuff Said!

YES.

They had one win last year against Portland State and even that game they had to come back from behind late in the game. They were also absolutely demolished in several games last year as well.

A bad cal football team puts a smile on my face.

So far, 40th is highest ranking I have seen. Most preseason publications coming out have them in 60's or higher. We won't get into any top 25 unless we can maybe win 2 of 3 first games. Even beating SC might do it. We will have to earn it the hard way after losing Carr and company.

40 is about where we should be...for a pre-season poll.  The loss of Carr alone was going to keep us out of the top 25, let alone the fiasco in Las Vegas.

40 is not WAY out of line, but a bit generous I think, for losing Carr and looking BAD in Vegas.  No one wants to hear or care that Carr was hurt...you lay a big egg as a team against one of the only, i not only, very good team you play in the last few years, you will not get the benefit of the doubt.

Anyone notice that under "key losses", he didn't mention Davante Adams. Thought that was kinda weird. Also, Murschel has Utah ranked at 101.

The sad part of that is 2013 USC was not a "very good team."  For half they year they ranged from average to well below average.  This is the same Trojan team that lost to Wazzu, barely beat USU, lost to a so-so ND team and got destroyed by both ASU and UCLA.  They were a team of turbulence and match-ups.  They matched up well and almost beat Stanford.  They didn't match up well against the Devils and the Bruins...both of which had/have big physical QBs who can run the ball.

That said, I still think we're a pre-season top 40 team for 2014.

Perhaps, but  how bad is USC in a "bad" year, given their long history of elite talent and seemingly unlimited budget?  They may have played poorly for some of the year, but those players, as individual playres, didn't suddenly become like our third string talent.  They were good players playing badly for some of the year, for whatever reason, adn turned it on against us.

I should have explained my point better.  USC always has talent, they aren't always a good team, let alone a very good team.  I'm differentiating between the two.
