Greetings from Husker Nation

Greetings from Husker Nation

Hey Bulldog fans.  Californian Husker here and will be attending the game Sep. 13.  Should be a good one, especially if Connette can replace Carr without much of a drop off.  I'm looking for some advice.  We will be staying at a Holiday Inn about 3-4 miles from the stadium.  What is the best way to get to the venue?  Drive?  Shuttle?  Taxi?  Also, any special tailgate/pre-game hot spots we should hit?  Thanks in advance and I still cheer for the Bulldogs (Shelton, Nebraska Bulldogs that is).

Re: Greetings from Husker Nation

Welcome! We are all looking forward to the game as well.

If your Holiday Inn is the one on Shaw Avenue and Helm Avenue then I would suggest you drive (or walk about a mile if you want to save $10) and park in the parking area just west of the Save Mart Center. There is a free shuttle that starts about 3 hrs before the game that picks up folks in that parking area. It makes many stops along the way and you can easily see where these stops are. The shuttle makes a circle around the campus and it drops people off near the stadium. I would forget about a taxi.

Now if your Holiday Inn is the one near River Park on Highway 41 I would suggest driving to the parking lot that is near the Save Mart Center. There are fans that might suggest parking on the west or north side of the stadium if you are staying near River Park, but I don't know much about these places.

Let me be the first person to suggest you eat at least one time at the Dog House Grill which is on Shaw Avenue across from the Save Mart Center.

Thanks Rum.  The Shaw Holiday was booked up so decided to stay in Selma.  We will be on site early to catch as much of the game day experience as possible.  Will park where you say.  Looking forward to visiting the Dog House Grill.  One thing for sure, there will be a lot of red in the stands and around campus.  Just like a home game in Lincoln.  Gonna be hard to tell Huskers from Dogs.

FYI - Selma ID more than 3-4 miles. More like 25-40 minutes away from stadium, depending on traffic.

I'm thinking MojaveRed was hoping to stay at the Holiday Inn on Shaw but since it was full he is staying in Selma.

I always laugh when the Selma Auto Mall advertises that they are 15 minutes from Fresno. But it is all freeway. Just get off 168 at Shaw at you are there. Should be no problem and Mojave did say he was going early.

The Holiday Inn in Selma is actually a pretty decent place. And if MojaveRed is really from Mojave, it is on his way.

Thanks everyone.  Yes, I am from the Mojave.  Desert dweller for 50 years now.  Sure different from Nebraska, but a lot nicer in the winter.  Looking forward to meeting the great Bulldog fans and watching a good game.  Your home record is impressive, so we are expecting a tough game.  Glad Carr and his favorite receiver are gone.  BTW, I was a great fan of Pat Hill.  He put Fresno State football on the map.

Re: Greetings from Husker Nation

Mojave, see if you can cancel your reservation at the Holiday Inn in Selma, and try to book a similar priced hotel in Fresno or Clovis.  There are many to choose from.  That way you can enjoy yourself after the game and have your choice of a lot of good/fun places.  Selma is gonna be a 25-30 minute drive with game day traffic, and Selma is a small town with not much to do.

Understand.  We have fans that hate Pelini.  Still, without Pat Hill, Fresno State would arguably be far behind where you are now.  Hope DeRuyter is your Bob Devaney, just not against us.

Yes, some who are unwilling to accept your perspective of Hill would lynch u, but most of us fans understand your point and agree he did put Buldog football on the map as far as other national programs are concerned. Small thinkers continue to bad mouth Hill based on several losing seasons of his career here and won't acknowledge his full scope of work during his 15 years at Fresno State, or minimize it. You have the more prevalent perspective on the situation in appreciating Hill's work here, although I too have to agree it was time for a change.

We had our share of really close games last year and until San Jose State, the football gods were on our side. One of the results of this is in the 2 years that DeRuyter has been our head coach, we have not lost a game in Bulldog Stadium. Since our first 2 games this year are on the road, we will still be undefeated at home with DeRuyter when we play Nebraska. I'm hoping luck is still on our side.

Welcome!  I agree with someone above;  if you can find a closer hotel, do it.

As far as Doghouse Grill:  please go!!  Best tri tip, AND pulled pork sandwich I've ever had.

Ignore the idiot section of our fanbase.  the vast majority are very cool and would love to have a beer with you

Re: Greetings from Husker Nation

Swan Court is nice, but I agree with the others it is a bit of a drive, especially if you like to tailgate or will be looking to hit a local bar after the game. If you can get out of the hotel, and you need it to be a Holiday Inn, your best bet may be Airport location. Rooms are normally priced similar (not the same with River Park, and Clovis is always full) and it is a very easy and close drive to the stadium. (Just over 3 miles)

Definitely hit Doghouse Grill and while quite a few of our fans can be rude, hopefully even more will treat you well and have some good football discussions with you.

If "every fan base" has knuckleheads, then why do you feel the need to remind him?  In case he forgot I take it?
