Recruitng and Early Commitmments

Recruitng and Early Commitmments

I realize that early verbals are tenative  and that young recruits can change their mind when they are offered by a Power 5 school. However it seems like there are some schools in the Mountain West that are being a little more agressive than we are at this time in securing early commitments.

For Example :

Boise has commitments from 1- 4**** star recruit and 4(Four) 3*** star recruit

San Diego State has  verbal commitments from   6(Six)  3star recruits

San Jose State has verbals from  5 (Five) 3 *** recruits.

Do the coaches just like to see how the recruit is performing in his senior season before offering ? Do they think they can sway a recruit who have verbally committed to San Jose or San Diego ?

According to Scout, SD only has 3 - 3 star commits and San Jo only has 4.  They are still doing pretty well, though.

Re: Recruitng and Early Commitmments

I was looking at  247 http://sandiegostate.247sports.com/ It shows San Diego State has Six  3 star recruits and San Jose State has 5 3 star recruits.

As said earlier, if the San Jose State recruits have few offers from other Universities and have a good year they still maybe swayed.

I'm starting to think SJSU recruits guys based on stars. I noticed last year that SJSU had a bunch of 3 star guys with offers from little to no schools. The trend seems to be continuing this year.

Re: Recruitng and Early Commitmments

Although it nice to recruit players with stars, I remind you that SJS started 8 freshmen in the game last fall
against CSF of which 6 of those freshmen contributed greatly to your loss.
Recruiting 3* players at SJS are no different than players recruited by CSF. You never know what you have
til you belly em up to the ball in game competition. SJS and CSF lost 2 great QBs so both will be starting
even with new QBs. Although it would be difficult for either team to expect the passing offense both teams
enjoyed the past 2 years, I do believe SJS will have a more balanced offense and hopefully an improved
defense. I will be rooting for CSF except, of course, when we meet. Those that continually disparage SJS
will always do so and I understand why.

Good luck going forward: Down with SDSU, the Mountain Goats and BSU.  JG

And where are those fans that said Carr would put 51 on SJSU. well they were right, Carr did put 51 on SJSU,
but Fales put 61 on CSF, and Carr reverted to his old self "Panic time" and tosses an int to cap his game.
But "m not gonna call u names. No need for that.  Go Spartans  Go Dogs.     JG

Since we're on the topic of numbers how about 6-6...sound familiar?

These are the most telling numbers-- 0-2, FSU's record vs. San Jose in their last two meetings.

I'll take where we are versus where they are any day of the week...that's telling.

Re: Recruitng and Early Commitmments

Better look again.  Most of the kids that have committed to SJSU have multiple offers.   If they actually sign, that's still a big question.

College football needs an early signing period.  It would really help the MWC by keeping P5 schools from coming in last min and signing a kid because they missed on some of the higher rated kids.

SJSU is recruiting very well under our new staff.

Re: Recruitng and Early Commitmments

So dogs.  Please tell my why you think FSU is going to be better this year that last year.  You lost a great QB and WR plus your TE and a starter on your Offensive line.

Now you QB just got to your program, he's still going to be learning the system come fall.  The RB's you return didn't seem that special.  Unless Scoby is a Freshman stud your offense might struggle.

Your defense returnes a Great Safety and a couple good ILBs.  You Nose Guard is good but the rest of your defense wasn't that great last year and I don't see any real upgrades.   You get a corner back form injury but who's going to bring the pressue off the Edge?  Number 31 was ok but he's not a game changer.

Add the all this your Scehdule is brutal.  After the first four games your team could be so beaten up it will take them a month to get back on track, if ever.

Fresno State was top 5 nationally in sacks and tackles for loss last year. They only lose statistically 7 of the teams 40 sacks from last year........add to that an expected improvement in coverage, thats why there is excitement.

Fresno State should have a pretty good defense this year, if the DB's improve they could have a VERY good defense.

Also #31 who is "ok", had 10 sacks last year. San Jose's whole team had 18 sacks last year

He is a little better than "ok" IMO.

Re: Recruitng and Early Commitmments

Your cb were awful last year. I know you get a couple kids back but how good will they be? Fsu had a lot of sacks how many were because you were blowing teams out and all they did was throw. You get a lot more sack when you are up big in games.

We shall see how good your team is real quick. I am going to the Nebraska game, hoping you pull off the upset.

SJSU just added 3 more commits this week.  I guess they didn't get the memo that SJSU is a dump and we have a terrible stadium

Just keep telling them the Stanford Campus or the Cal Campus is the San Jose campus.  They wont catch on until it's probably too late.

I would agree that SJSU lost a good QB and FSU lost a great QB in Carr.  I would assume Blake Jurich will probably be your starting QB and Brandon Connette will be Fresno's starting QB.  But there really is no comparison between the two, Jurich has 92 career passing yards and 208 career rushing yards and has played in 19 games, Connette has 1410 career passing yards and 735 career rushing yards and played in 39 games against BCS level competition.

Jurich has scored 4 career TDs and Connette has scored 47 career TDs.  Connette is clearly a superior QB anyway you want to slice it.

Make no mistake, SJSU will be in a lot of trouble when they make the trip to Fresno this year, you can kiss that 3 peat against FSU goodbye.

It's not going to be Jurich unless he gets really accurate, really quick.

Re: Recruitng and Early Commitmments

OK, lets say it will be Joe Gray, the Junior competing with Jurich.

He didn't play at all last year, and has only 23 career passing yards and 2 career rushing yards and played in only 3 games in 2012.

That cant inspire a lot of confidence in you as a Spartan fan.

Re: Recruitng and Early Commitmments

You have a good point. I wonder, do your coaches try and coerce kids to sign the letter of Intent, and THEN let the kid on campus for a visit? Because nobody who visits will sign, unless they have no options. If I were a visiting player, I'm not sure what would make me run away faster; the traffic, the campus, the "stadium", or the lack of STD free women to date.... Your team has had a good run the last few years, now it's time to get back into the shallow end of the pool...

Yeah that's how it works. Most of these kids have already been to a camp at Sjsu or come in for an unofficial. Keep telling yourself that these kids had no other offerss. We are on are way to another Stella class.

The scary part for you should be we are doing this coming off a 6-6 year and are stadium and practice facilities are even done yet.

San Jose just will never be a "football school"

Every time you guys go on a run, you will lose your coach. It sucks, but it is what it is.

So you guys are hoping that with a new stadium that maybe people will actually come to the games? You may see a momentary boost, but then apathy will set back in. Are fans still going to have to park in that mud pit you guys call a parking lot?
