Too bad they don't want him for Head Coach, they'd be slightly just above average in no time. But now on second thought, I think they already are.

FootballScoop says they interviewed Norcross for OL coach as well, but that he most likely won't get it.

That would be devastating, twice as bad as losing McDonald.....

It would definitely suck to lose Norcross.  Especially since he has a lot more to work with now, and the players are still learning the system.

I was pretty upset when I found out about McDonald, but I'm starting to feel like we might see more production with his replacement.

Okay, I will get in my two cents before the thread gets locked...

It would be a hell of a slap in the face to the haters for Mr. "Dive...Dive...Dive...Incomplete Pass" to get the OL Coach / Running game Coordinator slot at USC.

But not surprising. As disrespected as Hill is on this website, he is very highly thought of everywhere else.

I was living out in Texas when Hill was let go and everyone I spoke with about it thought it was a horrible decision.  They had all heard of Hill and thought highly of him...  at the same time they had no idea what Fresno's record was and had never watched a Bulldog game.  In other words, I get your point but the results speak for themselves.

Yes, it's easy to thinking letting Hill go was a horrible decision, not realizing the years-long funk we were in, and thinking (as did Hill) that Hill was the best that Fresno could ever  hope for in their wildest dreams.

It would probably surprise them too he only had one shared conference title in 15 years.

Isn't taking the job as a position coach at USC a step down? He has the same job for an NFL team...unless Lane makes him an Assistant HC too?

"Step Down" as defined by what?  Money?  Prestige (real or perceived)?  Coaching at college adn NFL are very different.  Maybe Hill really enjoys working with young men in their development, more of a teacher?  In that regard, if true, it would be a "step up".  Money is not the only thing that determines your worth, or your happiness with what you are doing.

He'd be reunited with Coach Baxter and probably get Baxter's associate head coach title. If Lane gets canned after next season...watch out...Pat Hill could be the next USC Head Coach, at least on an interim basis. eek

he probably thinks he can climb the ladder at the college level a lot quicker than at the pro level.

USC OL coach one year, some teams OC the next year, finally hc again

By your thinking I would agree that for him it might be a step in the right direction.  He sure did turn around our academic outlook.  He was always more of a "college, then football" type of coach and was really interested in seeing a player become a success off the field.  It might be more rewarding for him to get back to coaching college and he's not exactly hurting for money.  But, then again, USC might be able to offer him a similar salary as what he's receiving right now.  In that case, it would be a win win situation for him.

Personally I'd say a job with the Falcons is more prestigious and stable. There isn't a hotter seat in America than the one Lane's sitting on. However, maybe PH would rather be in California and coaching at the college level. Regardless, I wish PH all the best. It certainly would be something if he ended up coaching against Fresno State in the 2014 opener.

Not hate just stating the fact after 15 years his record speaks for itself. I was a big PH supporter as much as everyone else but after a few years it became abundantly clear his teams were going nowhere and average became the norm. So I really have nothing to get over. I wish him success where ever he goes, except of course when he's coaching against the Dogs.

I think it does have a lot to do with not being 3,000 miles from home during football season. Plus coaching with friends--and USC isn't a shabby job, either.

Plenty of FS ties there, too. Hill has aways been close to Baxter. In many ways, it would be like a reunion for PH. Good luck to him anytime USC is not playing the 'Dogs.

Maybe Hill doesn't see it as a step down at all. It's possible that he gets more fulfillment and enjoyment out of instructing the kids more than the "older" guys in the NFL.

The job went to someone else. Not surprised.

Regardless of location, the history with the staff, PH was one game away from the Super Bowl last year and Kiffin is done after this year unless they win the Pac12.

Not sure if it was PH's decision or not, but if it was, I'd say it was a smart one to stay in Atlanta.

USC hired Mike Summers the offensive line coach and running game coordinator fro Kentucky the past three seasons...Coincidently, he had been the Atlanta Falcons offensive line coach in the past as well.

Not to mention making on average 850,000k over a 15 year span makes me think he is doing just fine in the money department. Probably not a motivator at all for him.

Oh look, Fang made another classless entry into the thread. But this time he enlightened us by suggesting that college coaches are paid more than NFL coaches. "Interesting" thought.
