Re: Add a JC QB to the list.
QB from the #1 JC team in the country. Not too shabby.
If he can come in for spring ball, I would think this will ensure Watson moves to WR full time.
He was a stud out of Bakersfield HS a couple years ago.

I wonder if we are about to see a QB move to another position or possibly transfer.

6 QBs on a college roster is the standard. Why anyone would transfer when everyone already knows who the starting QB is would be moronic.

Re: Add a JC QB to the list.
As a Bako boy I'm thrilled to see CTD is recruiting BC... Boise , San Jose, San Diego St and KState have been grabbing studs from Bako JC for years.... and Hill seemed to have no relationship with the staff.
I wouldn't say Burrell is a great passer (strong arm though), but he is a decent runner, a great leader and a winner.... Valley title at BHS , and now State JC title at BC. I believe he has 3 years eligibility left as well.

anyone worried about all the juco commits?
We are getting quite a bit of them. This is a quick fix but if he doesn't pick up a bunch of HS kids next year, this could get interesting....

Re: anyone worried about all the juco commits?
I would say a few extra JC's in this class is ok because I think there are only about 15 Sophmores listed on the roster (Jrs. next year) My thoughts are maybe it would spread the loss of scholarship players a little more rather than lose no one two years from now and everyone in four years.

And some of the JC's may redshirt-- this will help to spread things out. I think that this recruiting class illustrates how thin things were depth-wise this season. It was a blessing that there were a minimum of injuries >>>>> a lot of credit to S&C Coach Joey Boese.

Re: anyone worried about all the juco commits?
I never liked the idea of a ton of JC guys coming in. I can understand 3-5 as a quick fix for a couple really bad positions in a year we sorely need them. In our case, JCs for the safety, offensive and defensive line positions I can certainly see and is warranted. But once a class becomes JC heavy, that raises a lot of red flags. Cody Clay and Mike Saenz came in last year for the OL, but it was freshman Alex Fifita who ended up starting instead. No doubt incoming JCs for the safety position is going to be a big welcome since we're low on depth there to begin with. I just hope this isn't a trend. dieharddog wrote: We are getting quite a bit of them. This is a quick fix but if he doesn't pick up a bunch of HS kids next year, this could get interesting....

Kansas State manages yearly. Get a JC ready to go as opposed to a Freshman who will 'develop' and in two years be ready......my math says....

Uh yeah but have you also payed attention to how many jucos CTD has offered? Yes. I have. Most of them in positions of serious need, particularly OL and S. We're signing 28 guys this year. I have no problem if we shore up weak positions with 8 or 9 JCs.

I don't condone loading up on JC players a la charlie Weiss, who has 16 of 22 commits from JCs. But I don't mind 8 or 9 when we're signing so many this class. if CTD takes 12+ I will be perturbed, but I don't see it coming to that.

Re: Add a JC QB to the list.
Lumping all JUCOs into a pile is ignorant. Lets trust that these coaches, who brought the first conference championship to Fresno in 13 years in their first year, know what they're doing. Lets trust that they're judging these recruits on their individual merits, their individual character.
Lets also remember that a lot of these JUCO players are also local guys who went to high school in the valley. I don't know what the fans that knock JUCO players are hoping for, but the bottom line is this. Fresno State is lacking depth and the JUCO guys can bring some instant depth to Bulldog football. I welcome them and the new philosophy.

Re: Add a JC QB to the list.
On numerous occasions CTD has stated he wants to build a solid foundation through HS recruits. The problem is they need quality depth and JUCO's provide that depth. Out of the 28 incoming recruits there will probably be 8-9 JUCO's. In future classes we will probably see only a few, but quality players.

There are a number of Junior colleges within proximity of Fresno State with outstanding Junior College programs and athletes. Just because the former Fresno State coach burned-bridges at most of them doesn't mean the new coach can't find gems to fill his needs benefiting the team.

But for now most are too raw to make an immediate impact. There may be a few red-shirts. In the meantime, the coaches are getting a few JC's this year. To prevent a massive drop off. Vercher will help with PT going to the NFL. Which freshman DB do you think can contribute more in their first year than Vercher will in his?
