Predicting 2013

Yes we have a bowl game left, but for grins here is one fans thoughts for next year.

08/29 - Rutgers
Hot day in Fresno for the boys from NJ. Sold out Bulldog stadium?

09/07 - Cal Poly
Competitive FCS team... ask SDSU

09/14 - @ Colorado
I expect a lot harder fought game from the Buffs.

10/05 - @ Idaho
Dogs should win in a walk. I hope Fresno got a 2:1 for this one

Nevada
Always a challenge. S Jefferson homecoming.

New Mexico
Get to see how year two of the Davie's regime is. If Fresno's run D is stout as 12... Dogs win

Colorado State
Familiar faces on sideline come to Bulldog Stadium. CSU will empty the bag of tricks.

@AFA
Much tougher game there.

@Wyoming
Toughest road game on schedule? Depending on when it falls -weather an element?

@Hawaii
UofH should be improved, but they mastered the new Pro set O? I doubt it.

?SJSU/?Utah State
Home or away? Two challenging games. Both return a QB and critical mass.

I predict a 10-2 season.

With that schedule, provided we establish a strong running game to go along with our passing attack, and assuming nobody gets hurt, it's 12-0 or bust.  Are we adding a 13th game with the road game at Hawaii?

My guess is since we added Idaho to the schedule, we will not be interested in the additional game.

I agree.  If we have a strong running game, strong passing game, strong blocking, strong receiving, strong defense, strong kicking game, and strong return game, we should do well.

I dont know what Rutgers is returning or how they will be so that one I cant say.. I think Fresno will go undefeated until the end.  I do think with what SJSU and USU is returning.. Im going to guess at this point losses in both those.  I think either 9-3, or 10-2 is realistic.

CTD said they probably wont be adding a 13th.  However, if they really do want to make a serious BCS run, then they should add in a 13th to improve SoS.  And not from the Big Least either.  Some middle of the road PAC team would be perfect.

I really hope ..

San Jose and Utah St have similar years to this one next year. If they don't this schedule might not be enough to get to a BCS game even if the dogs run the table. IMO it's that bad.

I hate having that Idaho game on the schedule. Cal Poly is a better program than Idaho.

Re: Predicting 2013

We already have the pieces and experience for a strong passing attack (so I didn't put that as a need). Rouse has given us a terrific running attack. The experience of the backups is pretty limited. Lots of ifs. But there is a lot of potential for a good season.

Idaho is devoid of talent....that only means we beat them by 40 instead of 70.

Re: Predicting 2013

Rutgers - Win
Cal Poly - Win
@ Colorado - Win
@ Idaho - Possibly the easiest win on the schedule
Nevada - We beat them in Reno this year, and we'll curb stomp them at home next year
New Mexico - They'll be a better team, but we'll still have the upper hand on offense and defense. Win.
Colorado State - They're still not going to have the talent to compete with us, easy win.
@ Air Force - More difficult game next year than it was this year, but still a victory.
@ Wyoming - Win. Their only weapon is Brett Smith, and we'll be able to contain him while they look silly trying to stop our offense.
@ Hawai'i - There's still a big talent gap and Chow won't have had time to recruit for a pro-style offense effectively yet. Another win.
@ SJSU (guessing they'll take STDU's spot in the schedule) - Much tougher game than it's been for the last two decades, and a potential matchup between the two top QBs in the MWC next season. Still, they don't have the defense to stop our offense, another win.
USU (if SJSU will take STDU's spot, then USU would obviously take Boise's) - I have this pegged as possibly the de facto MWC Championship game next year. The Aggies will return a pretty tough team, but I think we'll hang on and win this one as well, but it might be close than we would like.

That will make us the final BCS Busting team in the BCS era... not enough for a MNC game, but certainly enough for a Fiesta Bowl berth and pre-season ranking for 2014. I'll predict a win against whomever we face (gonna go with TCU, I think they'll be tough next year), as our guys will be fired up, and Derek will be looking to put a final stamp on his Heisman Trophy winning season as being the greatest QB in Fresno State history.

Re: Predicting 2013

the only way a loss is acceptable and potentially gets us a BCS game is if we go 11-0
and the last game is the next best team in the conference,,, let's say Utah St and they have at least 1 conference loss going in.
and we lose a tight one..... then 11-1 gets us in, assuming that we are ranked higher than an AQ champion.... I'm guessing Big East will beat each other up and not have a ranked team at season's end.

but, realistically.... this schedule is so soft, that it really is 12-0 or bust with this group of players returning.....    Any non-conference loss and forget it

Last year we had one loss against TCU, that kept us out of a BCS Bowl Game. We were ranked #9 in the BCS poll.

Fresno fans are going to find themselves in the same soft-schedule boat as has been Boise fans all these years. The same Fresno fans who used to disparage Boise's soft-schedule will be the same fans trying to defend Fresno's soft-schedule.

Think about it...  In 15 years Hill always lost 2 or more games in conference.  First year, CTD goes 7-1.  In 15 years Hill ties for one conference title.  CTD does it his first year.

Next year's schedule is absolutely set up perfectly for a 12-0 run into a BCS game.  Geez, that would just be absolute icing on the cake!!

I think CTD's strategy of mixing a few JUCO recruits with mostly High School kids is absolutely perfect.  CTD is taking a smart strategic approach across the board to the way he runs the program.  His Air Force education is paying great dividends for the Bulldog football program.

I can't wait for next season... and it starts be sticking a screw driver in June Jones face on Christmas Eve  biggrin

There is a lot of parity in the MWC for next season. Any team in the MWC sweeping the field has its work cut out.

There is a lot of denial on this board.  I expect Fresno fans to expect Fresno to win.  But I get the feeling they have not really paid attention to what is going on in SJSU or Utah State.  Fresno has some serious weapons.  The Spartans have more.  SJSU's defense is severely underrated on this board as well.  I see several comments about how Fresno has a stronger D.  Trust me, they do not.  I think going undefeated in next years MWC will be even harder than this year.  Nevada is going to be better.  CSU will be improved, and I dont expect Air Force to be standing by.  FWIW...I do not expect SJSU to go undefeated as well.  Utah State will give both Fresno and SJSU a run.  Its going to be fun!!!

There's no denial on this board bro.  NOBODY in the MWC, and probably only a handful of teams on the West coast, have a WR corps as dangerous as ours is when healthy.   Period.  Davante Adams is head and shoulders above any other WR in the conference on his own.

Sorry bro.. But you are absolutely wrong.  SJSU has a better group of receivers.  You have a good group of receivers... But they are a DISTANT second next year to what SJSU has.  Sorry..Its just reality.

and we lose a tight one..... then 11-1 gets us in, assuming that we are ranked higher than an AQ champion.... I'm guessing Big East will beat each other up and not have a ranked team at season's end.

but, realistically.... this schedule is so soft, that it really is 12-0 or bust with this group of players returning.....    Any non-conference loss and forget it
Fresno fans are going to find themselves in the same soft-schedule boat as has been Boise fans all these years. The same Fresno fans who used to disparage Boise's soft-schedule will be the same fans trying to defend Fresno's soft-schedule.

Why do you talk about Fresno state on the third person? It gets annoying.

You're so wrong it's ridiculous.  I pity you.   Your WR corps doesn't hold a candle to ours.

Fresno, Nevada and Hawaii leaves the WAC.... San Hoser thinks they're the king of the world. Put those 3 schools on their schedules, and both them and Utah State have at least 2 GUARANTEED losses. And they go thinking they have the best WR corps on the west coast.

RE: Predicting 2013

I'm surprised to see Fresno make such a quick turn around myself. I thought for sure Fresno was going to have a worse year than they did. That is a sign of a good program. Congrats on winning a share of the MWC title in your first year. Major accomplishment. I hope SJ, Fresno and SD are all end up in the same league again.

I've watched both of them play.   Noel Grigsby has hands of glue but that's about it.  You clearly haven't seen our WR corps in action.

Didn't stand out as much as Grigsby. He's good, but not incredible.
