Re: Students and Academics
I guess it depends how things work at Texas A&M Jalen had something to say about it. If Tebow,Cam,Luck & RG3 can attend classes on campus, so can Johnny Football. # NCAA

Who cares...honestly. Not to be a d i c k, but I do not see how this is a big deal at all. Actually allows the kid the focus a little more and manage his time easier. MaznBlue wrote: Curious question. How can Johnny Football be elgible if he takes classes on line and not on campus?

RE: Students and Academics
The average student can take online classes, why can't he? Personally, I hated online classes but if that's easier for him more power to him. As long as they are legit classes, I'm fine with it. I just hope it doesn't become the norm. One of the issues with online classes is that I felt, I had to put in more effort on my own time than I would in a lecture class if I wanted to get just as much out of it. Just my experience. So I think it could be detrimental to a football player's education just because of their time constraints.
I do know many athletes are required to do a study table a couple nights a week, so I wonder if they have that at TAMU and what he does about that.

Here's an article. He said he had to drop one class because so many people were wanting autographs and photos. http://www.usatoday.com/story/...lasses/1929057/

RE: Students and Academics
Well it's much easier to get someone else to do all your work in an online class. He's Johnny "*******" Football, he doesn't have time for school! (sarcasm...ish)

RE: Students and Academics
I have taken some online courses from two different schools, and have talked with others who have done the same. From my experience some schools have a solid online program, while other schools its more of a check the box deal. I would assume TA&M would put a good program together. If its available to the student body, why not take advantage of it, especially with his schedule/popularity.

Re: Students and Academics
I know I'm an easy target as a Buckeye fan but I couldn't possibly care less about athletes academics. All of our schools can make players 'look' eligible while they can't carry on a conversation at a third grade level. Don't care at all. If any of us want to win championships we need to come to the realization as fans that the student/athlete exists only among the low budget sports. It'll feel good to just say it and let that dirty little secret out.

It's also what separates Michigan, ND, Stanford and a few others from the masses like ya'll. Makes for a good line in the sand personally. tOSUalreadyKnow wrote: I know I'm an easy target as a Buckeye fan but I couldn't possibly care less about athletes academics. Re: Students and Academics
You are 100% correct but in this era (which is no longer amateur) if you draw that line in the sand, you will probably cut your foot off. Smart kids don't win championships anymore. Its hard to make stereotypical statements like that but its fact. Smart kids have a place on every team but I'll take 85 Florida/LSU/Alabama players who can't spell their name over 85 Stanford/ND/UM players all day and twice on Sunday. The other part of the little secret is that Brady Hoke, David Shaw, and Brian Kelly would too if their administration would let it happen. --------------------------------------------- --- TreeTown wrote: It's also what separates Michigan, ND, Stanford and a few others from the masses like ya'll. Re: Students and Academics
What's the difference? He still takes the exams/writes the papers with the rest of his peers in the same class.
If anything, it's tougher to take online courses because the onus is on you to actually learn the material on your own time.

Re: Students and Academics
Probably, but as our class and ND's class this year showed you can recruit character, academics and star's just fine. tOSUalreadyKnow wrote: You are 100% correct but in this era (which is no longer amateur) if you draw that line in the sand, you will probably cut your foot off. Re: Students and Academics
I actually took some major heat from ND fans in a thread recently about this topic, as I was backing up Michigan. Michigan doesn't exactly have a good reputation in this regard http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/academics/ . As far as D1 football and academics, it is Stanford and everybody else.
