Trouba and Carrick to the OHL

I've been reading today that there is a chance Trouba and Carrick might rescind their offers from Michigan and play at Plymouth and Kitchener respectively. I certainly hope that doesn't turn out to be the case because they've both stated numerous times they would honor their commitments.

RE: Trouba and Carrick to the OHL

I hope not could really hurt us. Am going to sound off on this subject any how. Going to the ohl does not guarantee them the NHL. They get paid yea but if they come to Michigan and work their asses off they will be in the NHL quickly. You have to earn it no matter where you go. I remember some of these kids leaving early and they simply were not ready and never made it. I think of al Montoya, Dwight heilmen (sorry about spelling). Montoya played more this year but it has taken some time. Dwight really bother me. He was fast but body wise not even close. Red has stated if a kid is ready he would personally drive them to the airport. College is such an experience they are missing out on. Jack Johnson if there was ever a kid who was ready it was him. He played for two years before he left and it was difficult leaving. Chris brown left he needed to stay for his senior year and be the team leader but I believe and this is my opinion that he sees a rebuilding process not a re-tool and go for a NC. If trouba keeps going back and forth I rather see him go now and not take off on us half way through the season like it has been happening to other schools. The nhl teams do not care about us, or any other college team. Its about money and winning at all costs. I read an article that Carrick is not interested in the ohl. Have we heard about Merrill? No offense to carrick but if Merrill ain't leaving he shouldn't as a sixth rounder. The ohl will always been there for these guys but you only get one crack at wearing the wing helmet, hearing the victors, skating at yost and having the student section chant your name as if you were a god. Have fun for at least a year.

According to reports Carrick has defected to the OHL but will still attend classes at UM.

This is a double wammy as both a Saginaw Spirit and Michigan fan. 1) Carrick defects. Bad, yes. But I can live with it considering he left for the OHL so I'll still get to see him play. 2) He went to Plymouth. Why?! Off all the teams why did he have to go to Saginaw's rival

On a somewhat related note: Anyone know if Cristoval "Boo" Nieves has shown any interest in reporting to Saginaw? I know he was drafted by the Rangers. I don't know if they have a track record of sending guys more to the NCAA or steering them towards the CHL.

Plymouth was going to be the only OHL team that Carrick would leave for IMO. That way, he can still go to classes at UofM and play hockey. I know he was making the decision that he felt was best for himself, but it did screw Michigan.

I'm not pissed when we lose players to the OHL....I get ticked when the kids say they're 100% the entire time only to leave us at the last second. Just admit there would be certain situations in which you wouldn't come to Michigan. Oh well.

That is my frustration as well. After his rights were traded Carrick tweeted he was still a Michigan man, or something like that. We could have used his slot with someone that wanted to be here.

Again, this stuff is why college hockey will never thrive.  Too many other oppertunities, and in some cases better oppertunities for kids.

RE: Trouba and Carrick to the OHL

How many different leagues are there outside of the NHL? I do not think the NHL should be able to poach college players during the middle of the season. I know this does not apply right now but it is happening more and more. Colleges need to start protecting themselves.

Funny we hear student athletes complaining scholarships are not for four years and that they are year to year. I supports these athletes with that but it honestly seems like kids hold the colleges by the balls. Colleges get hung out to dry by these athletes when it comes to leaving for the NHL, NFL, NBA. In college football and hockey it is nearly impossible to replace them. Michigan does not have an opportunity to replace these two athletes now. It truly hurts us. In football players have until three weekes before signing day not enough to get another top caliber player.

Apparently Trouba has been offered $200,000 to play for Kitchener.

Where does it say that? He has a development camp with the jets on July 8. That will say a lot.
