Big win but 2 huge concerns

Big win but 2 huge concerns

First concern is puck handling in our defensive zone is horrible at times has been all year. The second major concern is confidence. When we give up a goal we fall a part. The boys think its the end of the game. In Every game there is a 5 minute breakdown where the other team scores a goal or two and we fall a part. For the rest of the 55 minutes we are either equal or better than the other team. Confidence has to get solved ASAP! Hopefully we can build off of tonight. Huge win lets win the GLI! BTW when is Merrill returning we have played 12 games.

Didn't get to watch the game, but turnovers have been pretty bad this year. We need Merrill back there in the worst way. Confidence is going to be shaky with such a young team. Hopefully the veterans stay calm and rub off on the young guys. I would think it'd get better as the season goes on.

That said, huge win and I'm feeling a little better about our NCAA chances and I'll feel great if we can beat MSU today!!!

We looked the best during the first period, and probably the best we have all year. The second period was a mess, and the third was a mixed bag.

I don't if any of you guys have watched Merrill in the world juniors- but he has been brutal defensively.  I guess he is better than Serville at this point, but he is not the same player he was last season. Will be interesting if and when Red decides to bring him back.

Kudos to Sinelli, Hyman, Clare, Kevin Lynch and Glendening for playing so well at the GLI. Need these guys to step up in their roles.

Re: Big win but 2 huge concerns

Just tending to business at my site, doing my blog reviews etc. Keeps me busy.

I do see the GLI as a huge confidence boost. Ever since Berenson put Brown-Wohlberg-Guptill together, he has gotten solid top line production and can tinker with the other lines. The young guys like Sinelli, Chiasson and Serville are really coming around. Moffatt, Hyman, DeBlois and the Lynches are working hard, too.

Clare had an outstanding GLI. Great to see that. We need him. Bennett and Moffie have really carried the defense from the offensive standpoint and Pateryn is putting in a ton of ice time. Glendening and Treais are starting to lead on the ice much better. The only guy that is struggling is Sparks and he is sitting. Serville needs to settle down, play within himself. Too many d-zone turnovers.

Hunwick was real good against MSU, had an average GLI- but played terrific in OT vs. State.

Hopefully we can get Merrill back, but it doesn't sound like Red is in a big hurry to do that.

Not on the fence- always said the team has talent but suffered from a glass jaw- i.e. when faced with sudden adversity they would melt. I think that once they got back on track versus MSU, the confidence level is rising.

Problem is, they are in such a hole that they will have to play near perfect hockey now. No weekends off- and that will be tough with LSSU, OSU, Miami, MSU, ND, NMU all on deck. Do it one weekend at a time. We'll see.

If you guys get a chance, take a peak at my blog. More info  there.

Cheers.
