Did we really lose to the under 18 team

Did we really lose to the under 18 team

Things have really gotten bad when we lose this game. They have always play us tough. I honestly do not understand why we are so bad this year. I am completely baffled.

Yep. I sat through the entire debacle. We came out pretty strong but then Rutledge let in a softie and you could see the air come out of the team. They definitely play harder when Janny is in net. There is no on ice leadership at all either. AJ is a nice kid I'm sure but he's our weakest captain in a long time.

Going to the BG game on Tuesday. First game action for me this year. Hopefully we have turned over a new leaf this year.

RE: Did we really lose to the under 18 team

We keep saying that and we keep hoping but boys am sorry this is pathetic. I am a die hard from SoCal and this is so dam disappointing. The goalie situation completely unacceptable. We had hunwick in net and we fail to get anyone to learn from him. We banked all our eggs in that one goalie knowing it was a fat chance. The football team is going to be in trouble at the qb position. We paid the price at the Nebraska game. I hate saying this but for a few years we had dodge this. Does Red really want to go out like this? I do not believe trouba comes back next year not for a team like this. If the NHL was playing he would be gone. Red is Michigan but if we are rebuilding I would like the next coach to do it and red leaves. Mel going to tech shows how much that has hurt and how much he truly did for us. I love red but it is time unless he has a rabbit under a hat some where.

I think you're overreacting a bit stonecold. Gibson screwed us over. Nothing we could have done to have a plan B in place. He was committed for months and for months had been saying he was definitely going to college. Campbell, wasn't as big of a surprise, but still hard to get a good goalie with only a few months til signing day when other schools have been recruiting them the whole time. Recruiting is relationships and we had Campbell committed so there was no reason to have anyone really on the radar.

And it's not like we didn't have inconsistent seasons when Pearson was an assistant. Remember the season we had to win the CCHA Tourney to get in? He was an assistant that year and we had an abysmal stretch that year I remember. Him leaving didn't help, but I don't think it was detrimental.

Still have faith in Red. Game is different today than it was in the 90s. More parity. Kids leave earlier more frequently. Lots of turnover every year. Look at all the other big time programs. Even Boston College has missed an NCAA Tourney within the last 5 years and they're a dynasty. Sometimes you just get a dud year. Leadership seems to be an issue. Maybe that will be better next year as the younger guys see mistakes being made by leaders this year. It happens.

bacon, how do you feel now after watching the game last night? Pretty horrible effort by most of the team.

Can't compare BC and Michigan. In the last 12 years they have missed the tourney twice but have 4 NC. They have appeared in the frozen four 7 times. We have 0 NC and have 5 appearances. While I have enjoyed the 22 straight years performance in the tourney counts.

I would hate to see Red's career end like this. You said it best the game is different these days kids leave early. You have to have plan A, B, C, D. Just the way it is. 5 seniors are leaving this year and I expect 2 more to more at least to leave for the pro's.

This team is bad. Some thing is majorly wrong with our hockey team. We had been skating on thin ice for a few years and now the ice has broken. How do we go about fixing it??? We use to own YOST! Teams feared coming to Yost. Back to back home loses to the Under-18 and last nights embarrassing list to Bowlung Green. We usually drop one to BG because we are not ready to skate or play to their level. Last night was bad though. Next year we start up the big ten and that might be rough. Minnesota is reload. The last year of the ccha and we are irrelevant.

We keep hoping for that run but when play like we did last night and last Friday you wonder how it can happen. We have seen shining moments at times this season when we have won but why can't we skate and play hockey consistently? A lot of questions and very few answers.

And now Bennett is out and so is Clare. We have 2 starting D's and a bunch of 7th defensemen. Amazing we were ranked #1 to start the season.

What is wrong with Bennett? You know someone should have stepped up and lite the BG player up. 5 minutes so what.

I broke my arm pretty bad playing indoor soccer and ended up in the hospital and couldn't drive when I got out so I didn't have to witness it. But no matter how you slice it, a 5-1 loss to BG is pathetic for a team like ours. I know we don't have a full roster, but we probably have more talent on our first 2 lines than they've had the last 5 years. That's hyperbole, but it should never happen.

But my point still holds that ish happens with every program. The dominance from the early 90s-2003 is over. It was never going to last forever. Even these past few years that have been inconsistent, we've still accomplished alot. Tourney is a crapshoot sometimes. I can remember so many games where we dominated the opponent and somehow lost. Single elimination hockey is a b1tch. Maybe Jerry York has figured out the answer to it, but Red isn't the only legendary coach to struggle with it.

Sorry to hear you broke your arm. I do not know which was more painful the arm or the beat down against BG. Will you need surgery?

You have made some valid points our dominance ended in 2003. Top flight programs due go through bad times I get that but when a team has made it 22 straight years you expect a little more then what we have produced. One and done is a crap shoot. We have had some great teams and they lay a goose egg in that first NCAA game. It's frustrating.

We have talent on this team that is why it is completely frustrating. I do not understand why we can not play hockey the way we know how to. Is it coaching? Are the kids not connecting with the coaching staff? We have been so up and down the last few years it reminds me of Carr's final years. The crazy thing is if we can get healthy and actually start to skate we can win the ccha. Am not just saying that as a Michigan fan. There is talent I would not want to play Michigan during the ccha tourney. You just do not know if they can string it together.

RE: Did we really lose to the under 18 team

I had surgery on Tuesday. Broke both bones in my forearm, got plates and screws in one and a rod in another. I've got pain meds so it's no trouble. Just an annoyance with simple tasks.

Definitely frustrating. We must miss Merrill. Even though he messed up before last season, we played much better when he returned. Players probably respect the work he did to get back in good graces. We pretty much have to win the conf tourney to extend the streak. Not optimistic.
