2013 US News College Rankings

Moved up a few more spots this year to #97,  FU sitting at #54, Canes at #44.  Why are we always so low, whats the big factor here, endowments?
We should be much higher than this, and we should be closing in on the other public university in the swamp faster than this.  I think we were 110 and 101 the last 2 years, moving in the right direction but slowly.

FU puts out a good product. I deal with them all the time but I can't say it's all that different than the FSU grads I see in my world.

But it's really irrelevant. We are all a long way from elite status when it comes to academics.

Maybe UF or FSU will land a prof with a Nobel Prize who did his work 30 years ago. Contrast Cal Berkeley which actually has an entire parking lot dedicated to its current Noble Laureates.

Could be that FSU has a chiropractic school, and a school for the circus?

  Just a guess.

If it's about the size of the endowment then we have a ways to go. To give you an idea of the scale of things:

Harvard--$31B
Other Ivy's---$5 to 15$B+
Top Tier Land Grant schools $2B to $5B
UF- $1.5

FSU?--$500 million. (Even Wake is over $1B.)

FSU has neither. The Flying High Circus is an extracurricular activity, not a "school for the circus."

And FSU doesn't have a chiropractic school, either.

It boils down to endowment and research dollars. The biggest differences between FSU and UF's rankings are endowment size and Shands.

My father-in-law is a cancer patient at Shands. It's a wonderful hospital.
