the season has started out pretty slow for the WVU hockey team, which isn't much of a surprise, considering they've played the number 2 ranked ohio bobcats twice.  the third loss against john carroll is a bit of a surprise, but keep in mind that jc had played 7 games prior to the WVU game, at which point we'd only played 2 against ohio, breaking in a new coach and goalie on top of that. 

the schedule doesn't get much easier this weekend, i'm afraid, as WVU takes on number 12 delaware at 9:30pm tonight, and again tomorrow afternoon at 4pm.  the last trip delaware had to Morgantown, both games were very close and competitive, with Delaware escaping both times and keeping their lofty ranking in tact.  WVU is due for a win over this team.  it's been a long time and their first true home-stand could provide that extra spark.  here's hoping to a good game tonight. 

stop by the white park ice rink if you're in the area to support the old gold and blue.

Any plans on building a "hockey arena"? I've read where PSU just started hockey and built some montrocity of a facility from a 90 million donation or something. Would be cool to get that type of facility.

i seriously doubt it.  a hockey arena that would satisfy ncaa standards would cost quite a bit, and i don't see WVU dumping money into a non-revenue sport.  not to that level, anyway.  our best hope is that Morgantown gets an amateur hockey team (much like the wheeling nailers) and lets the WVU team use it for their home games.  otherwise, i don't see our team ever making the jump to the ncaa. 

and psu didn't just start hockey.  they've had a club team for a while, but recently decided to make the jump from the acha to ncaa, and it cost them quite a bit to do so.

PSU is jumping up to scholarship level ice hockey solely on the back of one very wealthy donor, IIRC. He paid for the program and new arena, something around $80 million all told to build the new arena (under 10k seats) and fully fund the program. 

So it's nowhere near cheap and something WVU won't do for a very long time, if ever, IMO.
