If you want to catch fish, you have to go to where the fish are. The guy seems top notch.

i love the hire

just though it was funny what he said during his presser

New WVU baseball coach Randy Mazey says, "I am a Clemson grad, so I appreciate what you all did to us in the Orange Bowl."

In watching the press conference and interviews there's no doubt in my mind that Oliver Luck made another quality hire.
West Virginia University is a rifle school until further notice.

Before Oliver is done (and I will be retiring during his tenure I hope), many WVU baby Boomers will not know how to act with all of the improvements and changes.

Added to my bucket list, seeing the first Big 12 opener at the new Baseball Stadium.

I hope that with this change and a coach with a vision and lots of energy, it won't be long that Baseball will have its own drop down on BGN forums.

Somehow, after looking at Mazey's resume, and listening to his official hire presser and his comments, we have hired another coach that will create success for our Sports programs.

Fianlly, I want to see the flying WVU logo on our Baseball hats and Uniforms, its time the baseball program joined the team and got behind the REAL BRAND.

my nephew is a good ball player and there was no chance of him going to WVU while the old coach was there but I could see my nephew playing for WVU now and would encourage him doing so

The real baseball brand IS the NY Yankee-style WV. No other sport wears a cap as part of its uniform. Baseball is about honoring tradition, not wearing what the soccer team wears.

Gowvusports, I completely agree with you.  I love the flying WV, but it doesn't have to be on everything.   We need to keep the baseball logo just as it is.  Most college basball teams have different logos on there unis/hats.

They do?  I never thought about this, so I looked up some.  Baylor, Kansas, Kentucky, Best Kentucky, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, and TCU all use the primary school's logo.     Texas has a T on their helmets, but the Horns prominent on the sleves of the unis.  Kansas State and Oklahoma State do not appear to use their schools primary logo.  Based off of the small sample I looked up, I think the majority probably use the schools primary logo.

Let's Goooo Mountaineers!

My main concern with changing the baseball logo to the flying WV, is that there is not a good looking hat that you can make with that logo on it. If they keep the old traditional logo then the hats can still look good.

If you want to put a flying WV on the sleeve of a jersey that would be better than to put it on the hat.

I say keep the old logo because it looks far better for a baseball team than the flying WV which looks terrible on hats, which baseball is the only sport that wears them as part of their uniform.

Re: New Baseball Coach is a

the hat - i think it's confusing (is that a spider?) and could go for an upgrade - make the W and V different colors or outline - it's not branded like the yankee logo. Minnesota does their T and C in two colors.  the WV might have tradition behind it, but not much else.  branding is important and folk who aren't familiar with that hat, might wonder what it even stands for - like that gawd-awful expo hat that looked like "elb."  I agree the flying WV may not be the answer and a script does go with baseball. but with the Zant losing era over (hopefully), maybe it's time for a change just like when Nehlen came in and gave football a new identity.  just one opine.
