Women's Track

Congratulations to Coach Cleary, his staff and girls on their 5th place finish in the Big East and to Chelsea Carrrier-Eades on her first place in the 100M hurdles as well as establishing a new meet and school record @ 12.93 seconds. Chelsea scored 18 individual points.

And today Carrier-Eades won two (100m hurdles, 200m dash) of the first four heptathlon events at the NCAA finals.  She placed 6th in the high jump and 13th in the shot put, and is in 4th place overall.

Three more tomorrow - long jump, javelin, and 800 meters.

Good luck, Chelsea!

In women's track, what places does the NCAA consider "All American?"

It depends on what palce she places. In the case of the 100H she will compete in the finals. She will finish no worse than 8th place, and will finish no worse than at least one point for WVU.

In the longer distances, I think it is finishing in the top 10.

What has killed Chelsea, as far as winning the Heptathlon over the last couple years, is her throws. She hasn't improved much or any at all on the shot put and javlin throw. Yesterday was a bad high jump for her by her standards. She is a great long jumper, awfull javlin thrower, and a pretty decent 800M runner, so we will see how  that goes this evening.

Re: Women's Track

Another note on womens track. I thought Chelsea was a once in a lifetime in state athlete. There is another girl, who is a rising senior, from the same alma-mater as Carrier-Eades. (Buckhannon-Upsher), Emily Goodwin. She jumps a 5-10 high Jump, and is also a multi-performer athlete.

To put that 5-10 high jump (for a high school junior), into perspective, Chelsea (West Virginia's bionic woman) jumped a 5-6 1/2 yesterday in the Heptathlon. All indicators from news clippings would indicate that she will follow in Chelsea's footsteps to WVU, but we have to wait another recruiting cycle to get her. She will probably hit the junior olympic AAU circut this summer and likley blow up.

Here is her profile. The column on the left is her personal bests that would indictate she will likley be a multi-athlete in college. Her performances in everything except the throws is pretty good for a high school junior. Will really have to work on throws:

Re: Women's Track

Not Chelsea's best performance, but she finished 3rd, picking up 6 points in the Heptathlon.
