Death blow to new ballpark at University Town Centre?

Death blow to new ballpark at University Town Centre?

Plans Announced for Minor League Team and Ballpark in Bridgeport

It looks as if this effectively kills any chance of Morgantown getting a Minor League team, as the market will be essentially saturated due to this. It's a shame, really, but not much of a surprise. I wonder if Ollie has any back-up plans...

Clearly the wise thing to do now is renovate Hawley Field.

It seems our baseball team not only has the worst D-1 facilities in the nation (not even a locker room), but has been fielding a team with only 8 or 9 total scholarships, about 25% than the normal limit of 11.7. Oliver Luck finally changed that this week in preparation for joining the Big 12.

there's still hope that the NY-Penn League could expand to Morgantown for a short season A ball summer league there or have a team like Hagerstown move to here.  Fingers and toes crossed but the chances seem to be fading.

Wouldn't the logical back-up plan be to jump on board with this?  Not sure how set in stone it may be, but if it is there is little or no chance we get to build at University Town Centre.  This may be a relationship you want to be a part of.  All the hotels and retail shops/businesses that have/will be added to the Charles Pointe area.  Airport in which WVU utilizes already for flights would be less than 2 miles from the ballpark for all your new Big 12 teams to utilize.  Best part most of the build would be funded by someone else.

have WVU play their home games in bridgeport?  that would suck for the two or three of us that actually go to the games, but if it helps the team, more power to them.

i'm 15 minutes away from my hometown. All I'd hafta do is get on Route 50 and head west.

But right now, since I work at WVU, I'm a 5 minute walk away from Hawley Field and potentially a 2 minute drive (depending on traffic and lights) from the UTC.

I'd prefer it that way.
