New sports...

The Dominion Post has an article up about WVU mulling over adding men's golf, among other sports. I don't have a subscription, so I can't post a link to the story, though.

I believe that they are adding both men's and women's golf and men's track and field.  Not sure what the additional women's sport will be, maybe Softball...?

Let's Goooo Mountaineers!

Wonder what course they would make their home course in Morgantown?  Pikewood National is the only one that really has a range the team can practice on in town.  Lakeview would be good, but no practice facility.

I'd love to see WVU host some matches at Pete Dye, Glade Springs, and of course the Greenbrier. As for the actual home course, I've heard Pikewood, Lakeview, the Pines, etc. I don't golf so I really can't speak as to what would be the best.

It seems like that in order to field any kind of competitive teams in the new sports we need to hire a coach asap and get some decent recruits signed.

Then there's the problem of keeping the gender numbers balanced to qualify for Title IX requirements. IX and XII need to match up, too.

Re: New sports...

We actually have an imbalance in sports teams in favor of women at the moment.  For the guys we have: 1.Football; 2.Basketball; 3.Baseball; 4.Wrestling; 5.Rifle; 6.Soccer; 7.Swimming, and for the women we have: 1.Basketball; 2.Cross Country; 3.Tennis; 4.Gymnastics; 5.Rowing; 6.Track; 7.Soccer; 8.Swimming; 9.Volleyball; 10. Rifle.

My understanding was that we didn't have the funds to support many other teams, and that's why we stopped funding the rifle team.  Golf and track are relatively cheap other than travel to support.  I would love to see Hockey or Lacrosse get bumped up to NCAA, but those will cost a boatload more.

I don't have many opportunities to use colons and semicolons, so could someone more grammatically knowledgeable tell me if I used them correctly.

We need brand new olympic sports facilities first. The Evansdale sports complex needs bull dozed to the ground, especialy the Shell Building. The soccer field is average, but everything else is a joke comapred to the rest of the Big 12 and the other regional power houses.

Who ever designed that place couldn't even make the swimming pool olympic size. We like to make fun of cards fans because we got in the Big 12 and they didn't, but when they came into the BE, they dumped a bunch of money into facilities like a new swimming pool and just blew right by us, and every body else in the conference in that sport.

I am a track guy, so you probably know my stance on bringing in a portable bleacher to the track to host the State Farms Games against power houses like Seaton Hill.
