Re: Ben Mauk denied 6th year
If true (we know how espn's reporting can be) thats terrible. Hate to see a kid lose a year due to an injury as severe as his was.

It is, UC released the info about 10 minutes after the story broke.

Just a day or two ago they granted a LSU player a sixth year. I really don't understand how some get it and some don't.

That is a real shame. The kid is a great qb.

That kid at LSU was injured for 2 different seasons. Mauk only had one injury year and his freshman year Wake redshirted the whole class.
Don't say whew yet, we still have Demetrius Jones.

RE: Ben Mauk denied 6th year
I don't think he will just because of the damage sustained in his injury. I think he will be a graduate assistant at UC next year. He has also said he would like to join the FBI.

I would think the guy from LSU would be no less than a 3rd round pick if that low, so I don't know why he wouldn't go to the NFL instead of risking another injury.

Re: Ben Mauk denied 6th year
He was also like Mundy in that he did not have to sit out when he transferred so I guess the NCAA thought that was enough breaks.

Re: Ben Mauk denied 6th year
It was a bad injury, but he was only out for a year with it. Lots of players get hurt and miss seasons and don't get extra years.

Don't think Mauck would pass the physical to play at the next level. The guy knows football and I am guessing knows our newO coord maybe we could hire him as a grad assistant.

RE: Ben Mauk denied 6th year
Jones may be a good player, but Mauk has the "it" factor - some intangibles that make some guys winners. I'll take my chances with Jones rather than knowing I'm in for a fight with Mauk. subflea wrote: That kid at LSU was injured for 2 different seasons. RE: Ben Mauk denied 6th year
I agree that Mauk has that "it" thing as you called it. He is just a winner. He was a great addition to our team for this past year, and we will miss him. I am really excited to see Jones in action in an offense that suits his style. I am sure he will have some early struggles, but he has loads of potential and talent. Kelly is very good at developing guys like that into stars.

I hate that for them, Mauk was a great addition to cincy ball, i hope they've got a guy who can fill his shoes, hate to see them go down-we need the teams to stay competitive for the sake of the big east.

RE: Ben Mauk denied 6th year
He should've been granted a medical redshirt on top of his regular redshirt, feel bad for the guy, as much as I hated going against him it'd of been good for him to get another year.
